Dogs are man's best friend, but it is not always the other way
around. The Little Red Dog was founded in memory of a little red
American Pit Bull Terrier who did not make it. If you are familiar
with the Michael Vick dog fighting case chronicled in The Lost Dogs: Michael Vick's Dogs and Their Tale of Rescue and Redemption. The Little Red Dog was brutally beaten to death by Vick and his cronies

because she had the audacity to not to want
to fight. The Little Red Dog fights for all the dogs, red, blue, tan, white, brown, black and all colors in between. We do not discriminate against ANY breed; that's
because we are a real rescue, and we will help as many animals as we can. Our hope that some day all of
them make it out, but most of all, we will never forget the Little Red Dog and
many others who did not.

✨ Feature Friday: Don't forget Xander! ✨ This handsome boy has been in foster care in Southern California since he was just 5 months old (with his brother Phoenix) — and he’s so ready for his forever family! 💙

Xander loves adventure, walks great on leash, and gets along with dogs of all sizes. He’s crate trained, house trained, and a total softie who loves his morning cuddles before starting the day. 🐾

He’s the perfect mix of playful and affectionate and would thrive with an active, confident leader and a consistent routine.

Phoenix has been in foster care since he was just 5 months old, alongside his brother Xander. This incredible boy has grown into such a loving, loyal dog — and he’s so ready for a family of his own!

Phoenix loves adventure and would thrive with an active, confident leader. He walks beautifully on leash, gets along with dogs of all sizes (he currently lives with three!), absolutely loves the water, and is crate trained and house trained. 🙌

With a well-structured routine, this boy will continue to shine.

Nelson’s Short but Beautiful Journey 🌈💔

Just 5 weeks ago, Nelson joined the TLRD family. When we saw his shelter photo, we knew we couldn’t leave this almost 15-year-old boy behind. We knew he had some medical challenges, but his ability to make everyone smile was a true gift.

Nelson adored his foster and followed her everywhere. He even gained a brother who welcomed him and shared his bed and yard adventures. They became family in no time.

When Nelson stopped eating last week, we learned he had a severe mouth infection and dental disease. With his heart condition, surgery wasn’t safe, and letting him go peacefully at home was the kindest choice.

We are so thankful to his incredible foster mom for opening her heart and home to him, and to our amazing community for making it possible to get Nelson to safety and out of the shelter. 💛

Nelson, we’re so sorry you didn’t have more time—but so grateful you left this world knowing love, comfort, and that you mattered. Run free, sweet boy. 🌈🐾
