Today’s take aways:

1. Is it ever gonna be my horse’s fault? No! Because they never asked for you in the first place. If we would turn them out they would never think of us again for the rest of their life. But if the horse is going to be our prisoner, we might as well make it as nice for them as possible.

2. There was a c**t that the owner had drugged or aced so it would be calm in the trailer on the way to the clinic. They started the clinic and the same time as everyone else, but on the second day it was like they hadn’t done or remembered anything from the first day. By the third day the horse had finally progressed. Buck brought up the fact that because her mind was not clear because of the drugs, she was not able to retain anything. Once they were out of her system she was able to retain a lot! You’re not doing the horse any favors by drugging them!

3. When asking a horse to move somewhere, you’re not forcing them into that direction, you’re opening the door for them to go in that direction. You’re the only one with the key, so when they try to go through a door you haven’t opened, it should be blocked.

For those who were wondering, we are at Houlihan Ranch for the c**t starting clinic! Buck’s arena is pretty unique in that it’s not rectangular, but a 150 foot circle. It makes it pretty handy for riding green horses because they can’t get wadded up in a corner.
