We have to confess...we have been keeping some exciting news to ourselves this summer. The cat is definitely out of the bag, though, as some of you have already discovered. So without further ado, we are so pleased to introduce you all to the newest addition to our veterinary team, Dr. Hunter Powell!

Dr. Hunter Powell is from Syracuse, NY and received his doctorate in Veterinary Medicine from Cornell University in 2026. He loves everything about veterinary medicine and is especially interested in surgery and dentistry.

Hunter currently lives with his fiancé and their perfect, never misbehaved black cat Mocha. When he isn’t busy being a vet, he enjoys spending time with his family, traveling, hiking and music.

We are so happy to have Dr. Powell join our LaFayette Veterinary Clinic family! We hope you all will help us give him the warmest welcome!

When we looked closer at these baggies of cookies a client brought us today, we were all dying! 🍪😂 We love a pet parent with a good sense of humor (especially when they bring us snacks!)

We couldn't believe our eyes when we met this most precious girl, Tootsie, and her most dapper brother, Hershey! We think they are a purrfect sibling pair 🥹💞

This week has been HOT! 🚨

Extreme temperatures can be very dangerous for your pets. Very old, very young, overweight, dark-furred, and short-faced individuals are especially vulnerable.

Here are a few safety reminders for these hot summer days:

🐕Avoid long walks and heavy activity during the hottest hours of the day. To help get their energy out, go for shorter walks and play in the early morning and later evening when the temperatures are a bit cooler.

🏠Consider keeping pets indoors and out of the sun whenever possible. Having access to a cool, dark room with a/c or fans running is very beneficial with temps this high.

🌳If you will be outside with your pet, stick to shaded areas as much as you can.

🔥Avoid walking on hot pavement as this can burn their paws.

💦Offer plenty of fresh water to help with keeping hydrated. Adding water to their food or feeding canned food will help with extra fluid intake.

🚗NEVER leave your pet unattended in a hot car! Internal temperatures rise VERY high VERY quickly, and can be fatal. It is probably best to leave your pets home.
