💙🐴 After years of faithful service to the citizens of Lafayette, it’s time for Police Mount Levi to enjoy a well-earned retirement! 🐴💙
Today, we celebrate not just a horse, but a true partner in public safety.
Throughout his career, Levi stood alongside the men and women of the Lafayette Police Department during some of our community’s most memorable and challenging moments.
⭐ Assisted in the evidence recovery during the tragic Mickey Shunick investigation.
⭐ Helped pursue and corner a murder suspect who had just committed a homicide on Jefferson Street, leading to the suspect’s safe apprehension.
⭐ Assisted officers during the large crowd control operations of 2020, helping maintain order during a difficult time for our community.
⭐ Worked countless public events including Festival International, Mardi Gras, Festivals Acadiens et Créoles, the Sonic Christmas Parade, Heritage Parades, and numerous other community celebrations.
While Levi was an exceptional police horse, he was also one of the Mounted Unit’s greatest ambassadors. ❤️
If you’ve ever attended a parade, festival, or downtown event, chances are you’ve met Levi. He absolutely loved people—especially children—and never turned down a head scratch or a little extra attention. His calm personality and gentle spirit helped build positive relationships between the Lafayette Police Department and the community we proudly serve.
Now it’s time for Levi to trade patrols for peaceful pastures. 🌾🏡
