To help spread awareness only, this was issued by the State Veterinarian Rod Hall today. So we thought we would share with our clients, seeing that we are near Arkansas and Kansas borders.
From the State of Oklahoma:
I know you’re probably getting tired of hearing me warn you about Highly Pathogenic Avian Influenza, but please be aware that it is getting closer to us all the time. There are cases in Colorado, Kansas, Arkansas, and New Mexico
In commercial and back yard poultry. It has been confirmed in wild waterfowl along the Red River and near Stillwater. The disease is very deadly to domestic poultry.
Please spread the word within your respective circles that poultry owners should immediately take steps to increase their flock’s biosecurity and minimize any exposure to wild waterfowl as much as possible. It’s especially important to get this message to backyard poultry owners, so if you know people with backyard poultry please make sure they are aware and ask them to spread the word through any social media poultry groups they’re a part of.
