What set's your dog off?
It can be as innocent as a bird chirping, or the sound of a truck.
They don't have to see it to be affected by it.
Trigger stacking can certainly play a part here too but many dogs are acutely tuned into their environment.

They know what is all around them.
They see it (of course) but there are other senses at play here too and we often don't pay them as much consideration as we do to the sight of a trigger.

Even moving from concrete to grass can affect some dogs.
They may now get a bit more nervy and want to go back to the concrete.

Have we inadvertently increased the tension or pressure on the lead?
They've noticed it.

Those wafting scents?
That head lifts up ever so slightly and they face into that breeze.
That can cause a reaction too.
They know that animal or person is near and simply by scenting them, they can react.

Start to tune into the environment.

The visual stuff?
That's often really easy to tell.
We see it!

What we need to be more aware of are all the other senses they can use and just how it can affect them.

Wet weather and standing water could mean hidden danger. Here’s what pet parents need to know.
As the skies open up and puddles appear, so does a hidden threat to your dog’s health: leptospirosis. This bacterial disease thrives in wet soil and standing water, and it’s more common than you might think.

Dogs can become infected simply by swimming in or drinking contaminated water, or even walking through areas where infected animals have urinated. The bacteria can enter through the eyes, nose, mouth, or small cuts in the skin.

Once it takes hold, it can cause flu-like symptoms and, in severe cases, lead to kidney or liver damage.
⚠️ More than 80% of dogs who test positive develop serious kidney issues.

The good news? Leptospirosis is preventable. A simple vaccination can protect your dog—and your family, too, since leptospirosis can spread to humans if your dog contracts it.
