Mack had a great time with his buddy K9 Spike on Saturday at Courtdale's Party in the Park. It was pretty warm, so I don't blame him for laying down on the job, LOL.

Be sure to say hello to Mack if you stop by!

**PTSD Awareness**

Courtdale PD is proud to wear the PTSD Awareness patch, designed by our own Sergeant Tony Smith, an Army and police veteran. The patch is in recognition of PTSD Awareness Month in June.

Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder is often described as a “silent killer” and affects up to 6% of the US population. PTSD can develop after various types of traumas, not just military combat. Women are more likely than men to be diagnosed with PTSD, and it is slightly more common among veterans. Children and teens can develop PTSD after traumatic events like abuse or accidents. Police officers and other emergency services personnel are at risk from Cumulative PTSD (CPTSD), after repeated, long-term exposure to stressors. Seeking professional help is crucial for managing PTSD.

PTSD awareness has special meaning for Sergeant Smith and his family. In August of 2025 he lost his father, who struggled for decades with PTSD after combat in Vietnam. His wife and her father developed PTSD after her father was shot in the face as a police officer in Philadelphia in 1970. Several of his adoptive grandchildren have PTSD from prior traumas. He has close friends in the military and law enforcement who have experienced PTSD.

Courtdale PD shares Sergeant Smith’s concern for those dealing with PTSD.

As most know, Mack the Great Dane is now trained as an official therapy dog. Tony and Mack are here to help others who are dealing with trauma and PTSD.

People often ask how they can donate to help with Mack's Therapy Dog work. If you'd like to do so, please consider supporting the Courtdale Police Golf Tournament, either by playing, sponsoring or donating. While Mack's therapy work is purely voluntary, the golf tournament proceeds pay for things like his trading cards, patches, stickers, and challenge coins that we hand out, especially to children.

Mack thanks you for your support!
