The farm is open the second and fourth Sundays each month from 1 - 3 pm, and is free of charge to the public. Bring the family and come visit the animals at the farm, including horses, Zebu, pigs, goats, sheep, bunnies, allig

ators, tropical birds, kinkajou, Lemurs, Kramer the Emu, Jack the ostrich, tortoises and turtles, snakes and many more. The farm is located just off of College Road, on Stock Island, at the Sheriff’s Office Headquarters complex. For our final post of Zookeeper Appreciation Week, we’re celebrating Farm Supervisor Jeanne! Over the last 20 years, Farmer Jeanne has grown the farm from a small collection of domestic animals to over 120 diverse species, including exotics like our capybara and sloths! Through her outreach efforts, she’s shared the Farm with the entire Keys community! Here’s more about Farmer Jeanne:

What’s a day at the Farm look like for you?
"Every day is different! I could be giving a tour for a school group, traveling to an event away from the farm, doing paperwork, or working with the animals on the farm."

What’s your favorite animal at the Farm?
"I love them all, but my favorite is Tucker the kinkajou."

What do you like most about working on the Farm?
"I love looking forward to coming to work every day, knowing that I’ll be greeted by all of these precious little animal souls."

Thank you Farmer Jeanne for all of your hard work building the Farm to what it is today!

It’s day 3 of Zookeeper Appreciation Week and we’d like to feature the newest member of our team, Farmer Aja! Here’s more about her:

What does a day at the Farm look like for you?
“Since I’m new, my day consists of learning! Although I’ve been a zookeeper before, every facility is different and every animal is different! Each has their own diets and routines that are important to learn and master, especially in our unique setting.”

What’s your favorite animal at the Farm?
“I’ve really gotten to enjoy spending time with Thunder the Zebu, Albert the tortoise, and G the rhinoceros iguana!”

What do you like most about working on the Farm?
“I like our team. We are a small team of 4 keepers, but we each have something unique to bring to our facility. We all add something that each of us individually wouldn’t be able to accomplish alone. We’re better together!”

Thanks Farmer Aja, and welcome to the team!

What does your typical day at the Farm look like?
“My days are generally spent prepping animal feed and medications, supervising the inmate farm workers, landscaping the property, and caring for animals. Mostly, I do a whole lot of walking!”

What is your favorite animal at the Farm?
“I have too many favorites to chose one. Harriet the red-tailed boa, Spice the silky rooster, and the mini horses are among my top picks.”

What do you like most about working at the Farm?
“Being outside all day and working with all the different animals are my favorite parts of the job. I also enjoy encountering wildlife on the farm, such as interesting snakes, spiders, and birds that visit us.”

It’s Zookeeper Appreciation week! The Farm is so much more than just a farm. We have a variety of species, both domestic and exotic, that depend on skilled keepers to provide top-notch care. This week we’ll celebrate each of our valued staff, starting with Farm Assistant Dianne!

About Dianne:
"I started at the farm as a volunteer over 2 years ago. I was thrilled to become an employee and spend more time with the animals and my amazing colleagues."

What’s your favorite animal at the Farm?
"Jack the ostrich has become my best buddy, keeping me company as I prep the produce, and performing his ritual dance for me."

What do you love most about the Farm?
"My favorite part of the job is watching when an inmate connects with an animal. It gives me hope for his future."

Thanks Dianne for all of your hard work and dedication to the Farm!
