Meet Ernie — Dr Linenberger’s six-toed Highlander cat with a big heart and an even bigger love for people...and DOGS!

Named after Ernest Hemingway (who adored polydactyl cats), Ernie has been part of the Habitat Boise family for almost a decade. Several years after Ernie was adopted, we opened Habitat Ketchum right across the street from Hemingway’s final resting place.

Coincidence? Maybe. But we like to think some connections are meant to be. Follow along as we share his quirks, friendships, and the lessons he teaches about love, naps, and living fully.

Dr. Reed has spent nearly two decades helping pets and their people across Idaho. Clients know him for his thoughtful approach, clear communication, and dedication to lifelong pet wellness.

From internal medicine to acupuncture, Reed believes in meeting each pet where they are — blending traditional and complementary therapies to support their health.

Sometimes, the most important moments in our day aren’t found in the charts or the treatment notes we’re working on. They’re found in the shared smiles between teammates. The silent nod of “I’ve got you.” The coffee delivered mid-shift. The laughter in treatment after a tough case. ☕🐶✨

When he’s not keeping an eye on his humans, he’s out living his best mountain dog life—climbing peaks, chasing wildflower breezes, and reminding us exactly why we should protect Idaho’s public lands.

🌲 At Habitat, we’re proud to be local. We’re not part of a big corporation — we live here, work here, and recharge here in Idaho’s wild places. These lands aren’t just where we find balance — they help keep our pets, our people, and our community healthy and connected.

💡 The House removed land sales from its bill, but the Senate version still threatens millions of acres. Now’s the time to protect the places that make this life possible.

Like so many of us in the Wood River Valley, Katie and her dogs find joy and connection in Idaho’s public lands. From mountain trails to riverbanks, these wild places are part of what makes our community home.
