Our understanding of small mammal medicine has evolved so much in the 20 years that Dr. Ford has been in practice! Every diagnostic test we run (xray, ultrasound, bloodwork) has something to teach us. And one thing we have seen a lot of, now that many exotic pets are living longer and healthier lives, are the same kinds of degenerative diseases that affect humans as they age. This is one of the many reasons that we recommend regular office visits for senior pets. Check out this great post from the AEMV about one of the diseases we diagnose very commonly in older pets...arthritis!
