With spring arriving, so do mosquitoes. Along with other diseases, mosquitos can carry and transmit heartworm disease which can be lethal to dogs, cats, and other mammals. Symptoms include coughing, weight loss, decreased appetite, and lethargy to name a few. The good news is that prevention is as easy as a once-a-month medication! A once yearly blood test will also screen your pet for heartworm disease, giving you peace of mind. Talk to your veterinarian about which prevention works best for you and your pet!

April 1st through the 7th is devoted to p**per scooper awareness with its intent to make scooping p**p a priority year-round. Here are a few facts about the importance of scooping the p**p!

💩 It can get into ground water. Rain can wash over it and decompose it just enough that it soaks into the ground and gets into the groundwater. This contaminated water can then drain into water systems and then be distributed into homes.

💩It can spread bacteria and diseases. Bacteria and/or parasites that may be present in f***s can spread to the ground where humans and other animals may pick it up.

💩It can attract unwanted pests to your yard. Nuisance visitors such as ats, cockroaches, and similar animals enjoy scavenging for f***s as part of their diet.

March is Adopt A Rescued Guinea Pig Month. Many people do not realize that rescue shelters do take in small animals such as guinea pigs, mice and rats.

Did you know that guinea pigs can communicate through a variety of vocalizations and body language? They can purr deeply when they are happy along with a calm posture and they squeak when they are excited. They will freeze when startled and they will hop straight up in the air when they are playful or excited.

They love to socialize and they do better with a bonded pair. However, they do like to have hideouts where they can feel secure and safe.

Guinea pigs need to chew a lot. It is important to provide them with appropriate enrichment opportunities. Chewing helps to keep teeth healthy and short. It also provides with mental stimulation and to curb boredom.

Let's celebrate these pocket-sized friends and spread the love!

Today marks the day we “spring forward” by setting our clocks forward one hour. Our pets can experience a shift in their internal clock with this change.

Here are some tips to help our pets adjust to the daylight change:

☀️Take it easy: Avoid making sudden changes. You can slowly adjust your pet's meal times, walks and playtime with 10 minutes increments over a week.

☀️Adhere to the new schedule: It is important to try to maintain a consistent feeding and walking schedule as much as possible. This will aid in providing your pet with a sense of predictability and adjust to the new patterns you have established.

☀️Have Patience: It’s normal for you and your pet to experience temporary brain fog. Don't we all especially losing a precious hour of sleep? Give your pet extra love and reassurance during the adjustment.

☀️Sunshine: The extra hour of sunlight in the evening can welcome a positive change for pets and their owners. Take the extra time to take a longer walk, playtime outside in the yard or cuddle on the porch enjoying the sunshine.

March 2nd-8th is Professional Pet Sitters Week!
Let's celebrate those who care and love our pets when we are away. Pet sitters provide peace of mind while owners are out of the house, permitting pets to stay in an environment they are comfortable and familiar with. Some pets can get thrown off when they do not stick to their normal routine - having a pet sitter can help keep the routine the same, providing less stress. Many pet sitters have demanding schedules - working during weekends, holidays, and taking walks in less than desirable weather. Give your pet sitter a great big thank you and maybe a treat this week! 😉

This holiday is a fun pet holiday for us! Today is a great day to imagine what life would be like if our pets actually had opposable thumbs. Here are some things we think they would do and probably cause some havoc:

👍Throw away the vacuum
👎Cancel their appointments with their veterinarian
👍Open canned food
👍Play thumb wars

What do you think your pet would do if they suddenly grew opposable thumbs?

It's National Peanut Butter Lover's Day! Peanut butter can be a safe treat to feed your pet in moderation as it is high in fat (please make sure it does not contain xylitol)! Xylitol is an artificial sweetener that is highly toxic to dogs and this sweetener can also be called as birch bark extract, wood sugar and birch sugar.

Let's see pictures of your pet enjoying this creamy treat!
