This week at Arlington Dog and Cat Hospital, we are celebrating our incredible veterinary assistants for Veterinary Assistant Appreciation Week. 🐾💙

Their job is not always glamorous — filled with patient cuddles, behind-the-scenes cleanup, busy treatment days, and jumping in wherever they are needed — but they handle it all with kindness, compassion, and endless teamwork.

They are often the first to comfort a nervous pet, the extra set of hands during a hectic moment, and the steady support that helps keep our hospital running each day.

We are beyond grateful for all that they do, and we know our doctors, technicians, front desk staff, clients, and furry patients feel the same. Thank you for your hard work, your heart, and the love you pour into every single day. ✨

This Veterinary Receptionist Appreciation Week, we’re celebrating the heart of our front desk here at Arlington Dog and Cat Hospital 🐾💙

Our receptionists are so much more than the first friendly face you see—they’re problem-solvers, multitaskers, and a steady source of comfort during both joyful visits and stressful moments. From juggling nonstop calls and busy schedules to supporting worried pet parents with compassion and patience, they handle it all with incredible strength and care.

This role isn’t always easy, but every challenge is met with resilience, teamwork, and dedication. We see it every day, and we’re so grateful.

Thank you for everything you do—for our team, our clients, and the pets we all love. 🐶🐱

Happy National Pet Day! 🐾💙

Today is all about celebrating the pets who bring so much love, comfort, and joy into our lives every single day. National Pet Day also serves as a reminder of the importance of adoption—encouraging people to open their hearts and homes to pets in need, and to recognize the countless animals still waiting for their forever families.

Whether your pet has been by your side for years or just recently joined your family, today is the perfect day to give them a little extra love (and maybe an extra treat, too 🦴).

From all of us at Arlington Dog and Cat Hospital, we’re so grateful to be part of your pets’ lives and care. Give your furry (or scaly!) friends a cuddle from us today! 🐶🐱🐍

Meet Bo 🐾💙 (formerly known as Sarge)!

This sweet pitbull/Labrador retriever mix may roll into our hearts with his wheelchair, but it’s his endlessly happy spirit and snuggly personality that truly steal the show. Despite being paraplegic, Bo doesn’t let anything slow him down—he greets everyone with tail wags, cuddles, and the biggest smile!

Every visit he brings so much joy to our team, and we feel so lucky to be part of his journey. Even more amazing? Bo is working towards becoming a therapy dog—spreading the same love and inspiration he gives us to so many others. ✨

Proof that nothing can hold back a heart this big. We love you, Bo! 🐶💙

Brody Prince came in looking extra egg-stra stylish in his Easter bandana this past week. 🐣🌸🐾

This fashionable little guy stopped by to update his Bordetella vaccine—an important step in protecting pups from kennel cough, especially as the weather warms up and social calendars start filling up! ☀️🐶

Kennel cough is a highly contagious respiratory illness that spreads easily anywhere dogs gather, like dog parks, doggie daycare, grooming salons, and boarding facilities. With more outdoor adventures and vacation plans ahead, keeping your dog up to date on their Bordetella vaccine helps keep them (and their furry friends) safe and healthy. 💛

Planning a getaway or more playdates this spring? Make sure your pup is protected before the fun begins!

🌷🐣 Happy Easter from all of us at Arlington Dog & Cat Hospital! 🐰💛

Wishing you, your family, and your furry companions a safe, happy, and treat-filled holiday!

Did you know? 🐾
🥚 The tradition of Easter eggs dates back centuries as a symbol of new life and springtime renewal.
🐶 Dogs have over 300 million scent receptors—so if there are hidden eggs (or treats), they’ll likely find them before you do!
🐱 Cats may not hunt for eggs, but their curiosity means they’ll definitely investigate any new decorations or baskets around the house.

As you celebrate, here are a few important pet safety tips:
⚠️ Chocolate and candy (especially xylitol) are toxic to pets—keep baskets out of reach!
⚠️ Easter grass and plastic eggs can cause dangerous intestinal blockages if swallowed.
⚠️ Lilies are extremely toxic to cats—even a small amount can be life-threatening.
⚠️ Table scraps and rich foods can upset your pet’s stomach.

Let’s keep the holiday fun AND safe for every member of the family—two-legged and four-legged alike! 🐕🐈

Share a photo of your pet enjoying Easter (safely!) and tag us—we’d love to see! 💐🐾

Everyone say hello to Salt 🧂🤍

This tiny (but mighty!) pitbull/chihuahua mix made his very first visit with us—and he absolutely nailed it. Brave for his exam, strong for his vaccines, and already stealing hearts left and right 🐾

Salt is all white with the perfect little brown spot on his hind end… like a sprinkle of seasoning to match his name 😉

We’re so proud of this sweet boy for being such a superstar on his big day. Welcome to the Arlington family, Salt—we can’t wait to watch you grow! 💙

April is Heartworm Awareness Month ❤️🐾

Heartworm disease is a serious and potentially life-threatening condition that affects both dogs and cats—and it’s completely preventable. Heartworms are spread through mosquito bites, meaning even indoor pets are at risk. Once infected, heartworms grow and live in the heart, lungs, and blood vessels, causing damage that can lead to severe lung disease, heart failure, and other complications.

The scary part? Early stages of heartworm disease often show little to no symptoms, making prevention absolutely essential. Treatment for dogs can be costly and hard on their bodies, and unfortunately, there is no approved treatment for heartworm in cats—only supportive care.

The good news: prevention is simple, safe, and effective. Monthly preventatives protect your pet from infection before it starts, giving you peace of mind all year long.

If your pet isn’t currently on heartworm prevention or you have questions about what’s best for them, we’re here to help! Let’s work together to keep your furry family members healthy and heartworm-free. 🐶🐱
