We want to send a heartfelt shoutout to Jenny Ulrich for spending her day collecting much needed items from our Amazon Wishlist! With how incredibly busy things have been at the shelter, we’re going through supplies faster than ever, so this generous act came at exactly the right time. Quasi (who has since been adopted, yay!) wanted us to issue a quick correction, and he, along with all the pets here at KAAS, would like to raise a paw to our amazing friends over at Platte Valley Taphouse! Thanks to your incredible generosity and support during the 3rd Annual Paws & Pints, we’re thrilled to share the final total raised was a whopping $2,591.15! This year’s fundraiser brought in $1,226.15 to support the animals in our care and thanks to everyone purchasing Platte Valley Taphouse apparel, that number grew even higher. We are absolutely blown away! Your continued support means the world to us and to the animals who depend on KAAS. Events like this not only raise critical funds, but also bring our community together in such a fun and meaningful way. A huge THANK YOU to everyone who came out to KAAS on Saturday for Clear the Shelters Day! Because of your support, 21 of our animals found loving forever homes and that is absolutely HUGE! While we celebrate these happy tails, our work is far from over. Our holding rooms are still full of animals, many of whom are waiting on their spay or neuter surgery before they can be adopted. To help more of our long-term residents find their happily ever after, we're continuing to offer 50% off all dog adoptions! Now’s the perfect time to meet your new best friend!

Too Cute Tuesday! Meet Mimi!

Hello! I’m Mimi, an 8-year-old Cattle Dog with a gentle soul and a heart full of love. I may be a little older, but I still have plenty of life and affection to share with the right family! I’m a sweet, calm girl who thrives in a quiet, loving home where I can feel safe and secure. I can be a bit shy at first and take some time to warm up, but once I do, I’m incredibly loyal and affectionate. Loud or chaotic environments can overwhelm me, and I don’t do very well in my kennel, it’s not easy for a sensitive girl like me. What I really need is a patient person who understands that I open up best with kindness, consistency, and a cozy space of my own. Even though I’m more of a laid-back companion, I still enjoy going for walks, exploring the outdoors at my own pace, and relaxing by your side. I don’t need constant activity, just someone to share lots of love and belly rubs with. If you're interested in me, please stop into KAAS!

We’re so excited to announce the first ever Night FUR Love Gala, hosted by yours truly! Join us on Saturday, March 14th from 6:00 PM to 10:30 PM at the Younes Conference Center for a heartwarming evening full of fun, love, and community, all in support of the animals who need us most. This special night will feature a live performance by Bryan Olesen from The Voice! It’s the purr-fect excuse to dress up, have fun, and make a real difference for our furry friends. We can’t wait to celebrate with you and help give every pet the second chance they deserve.

Tomorrow, Saturday, August 16th, is National Clear the Shelters Day, and we're so excited to take part here at KAAS! From 11 AM to 4 PM, all adoption fees will be waived as we work to find loving homes for the many wonderful animals who have been waiting far too long. If you’re ready to make a 10+ year commitment and add a new family member to your life, this is the perfect time to stop by and meet your match. We do want to remind everyone that you must be 21 or older to adopt. KAAS reserves the right to refuse any adoption, and all potential adopters will be properly vetted to ensure the best fit for our animals. We have received a lot of backlash for choosing to participate in Clear the Shelters Day, and we want to take a moment to address your concerns. At KAAS, our mission has always been to do right by the animals in our care. While we are waiving adoption fees this Saturday, please understand that this does NOT mean we are handing pets over to just anyone. Every potential adopter will still be properly vetted. Our number one priority is, and always will be, finding the best possible match for every animal. We are constantly working to improve and to ensure that every animal has a shot at a safe, loving home. Since last Friday, we’ve taken in 14 stray dogs, none of which have been reclaimed. That’s 14 dogs we didn’t have the space for. And that’s not including the heartbreaking number of animals being abandoned daily in homes, in neighborhoods, or on the streets. We are a small nonprofit doing our best in a nationwide crisis. We are waiving adoption fees not to lower standards, but to give our animals a second chance at the life they deserve. If you cannot adopt, please help us spread the word.

Too Cute Tuesday! Meet Ellie!

Hi, I’m Ellie, a 10 month old Labradoodle Mix! I didn’t expect to end up here. My family left me behind, and I didn’t understand why. But even after everything, my heart is still wide open. I’m not angry or bitter, I’m just hoping for a second chance. I’m the kind of girl who loves deeply and unconditionally. I’ll greet you with a wagging tail and a heart full of hope. I’m sweet, affectionate, and just want to be close to someone who will love me back the way I love, completely and forever. If you’re looking for a loyal companion who’s ready to give her whole heart, I’m right here, waiting. Kearney Area Animal Shelter

The Kearney Area Animal Shelter was made possible due to the generous donation of gifts, talents, and time of many individuals. Most importantly, $1,000,000.00 was donated by Scott and Cheryl Morris for the construction of a facility that would be capable fulfilling the mission of the Kearney Area Animal Shelter for generations to come.

After a long and careful planning period, the Kearney Area Animal Shelter broke ground on their new facility on June 10, 2005. The site is located on Highway 30, south of Meadowlark Golf Course and east of the Nebraska Department of Roads facility.

The Kearney Chamber of Commerce ribbon cutting ceremony was held on February 16, 2006 at 4:30 pm. and pet adoptions began Sunday, February 19, 2006.
