Important Biosecurity Update: EHV-1 Precautions at GSWEC
Current Situation

Great Southwest Equestrian Center is aware of the recent outbreak of Equine Herpesvirus (EHV-1) during the WPRA World Finals and Elite Barrel Race event held November 5–9, 2025, in Waco, TX. To protect the health of every horse, we are implementing strict biosecurity measures in compliance with recommendations from the Texas Animal Health Commission.

Impact on Events
Due to the alert issued by Commissioner Sid Miller and the Texas Department of Agriculture, this weekend’s Paso Fino Horse Show has been cancelled. We appreciate your understanding as we prioritize the safety of all horses and participants.

Current Status at GSWEC
There have been no reported cases of EHV-1 from the recent hunter/jumper competitions held at GSWEC. We will continue to monitor the situation closely and provide timely updates regarding upcoming horse shows scheduled at our facility next week.

Our Commitment to Safety
The well-being of our equine athletes is our highest priority. We have established protocols to minimize risk and ensure a safe environment for all horses competing at GSWEC.

Requirements for Upcoming Events
To help protect our equine community, the following documentation is required for every horse entering the show facility:
Valid Health Certificate (issued within 15 days of the event)
Current Vaccination Records for:
EHV-1 Rhino
Rabies
West Nile Virus (WNV)
Negative Coggins Certificate

Please ensure these documents are submitted prior to arrival.

Thank you for your cooperation in safeguarding the equine community. For questions or additional information, please contact us.
