Ive been able to get 70 broccoli planted today. I’ll work on getting the cabbage, bok choy and rest of the broccoli planted tomorrow. This is the perfect weather for planting Fall crops, also knows as colecrops.

Cole crops are a group of cool-weather vegetables belonging to the mustard family (Brassicaceae), primarily descending from a single wild species, Brassica oleracea.
Despite the name sounding like "cold" crops, the word "cole" actually comes from the Latin word caulis (or old Germanic terms) meaning "stem" or "cabbage". Even though they are not named for the temperature, they naturally thrive in chilly weather and prefer temperatures between 60°F and 65°F.
The rain has evenly saturated the soil which makes planting easier and it’s so much better for the plants. The rain has also naturally cooled the soil to the temperature the cool weather plants require to get the best germination.
More mustards, collards, lettuce, cilantro, radishes, turnips and beets will be sown this week also.

My roses are loving the cooler weather and rain. They have put on a bunch of new growth, flowered more than they did all summer and are covered in buds. I’m guessing having a favorite flower is like having a favorite child. As long as they all believe it’s them, everything is fine. I make sure to whisper to each one of them that they are my favorite. However, the Julia Child yellow rose happens to be my most productive, producing loads of vibrant yellow flowers. She may not be the most fragrant in the group but she does like to be seen. One plant currently has 17 blooms and 60 buds on it.
Probably the most fragrant amongst them is the Tiamo dark red rose. I can’t help but to stop and smell them every time I pass by. I started growing roses two years ago because I wanted to have a few fancy options to add to the pre made flower bouquets. I purchased many of my roses from another local flower farmer. Jennifer Bingham grows a huge variety of roses among other flowers.
She does currently have potted rose bushes available for purchase.
I have been taking cuttings from my plants and experimenting with propagation methods. Since I am new to roses, figuring out the best method for propagating new plants is part of the process. I have several cuttings of each variety in the clone machine, that many more started in soil, several cuttings in bags with a moisture trap, quite a few tip layered ( buried tips) and I’ll be starting some air layering today.

Some things in life mean more than words can ever explain. For Michael and me, Farm Your Way is one of those things.

For nearly 20 years, we’ve poured our hearts, our time, our money, and sometimes every last ounce of strength into this little farm of ours.

We’ve celebrated beautiful harvests, cried over devastating losses, made costly mistakes, and faced days when giving up would have been so much easier.

But we kept going. And somewhere along the way, we learned that success isn’t about doing things the way everyone else does. It’s about finding the courage to do things your own way.

That’s what this book is about.

Every page holds a piece of our journey. Lessons learned the hard way, experiences we wish someone had shared with us, and knowledge we hope makes someone else’s path a little easier.

What makes me emotional isn’t just that we wrote a book together. It’s knowing that something born from our struggles, sacrifices, and determination might inspire someone else to chase a dream, take a chance, or simply keep going when things get hard.

I’m incredibly proud of Michael. I’m proud of us. And I’m proud that nearly two decades of our lives have become something we can share with others.

Because this was never just about growing vegetables. It was about growing something meaningful enough to pass along.

I’ve been working on a new blackberry field over the past few weeks.
The rows were initially dug into trenches which will be filled with compost and wood chips. The trenches act as water catchment and the wood chips will help to hold the moisture in while preventing w**d growth also.
I am experimenting with burlap as a w**d barrier and utilizing cardboard waste as well. This field will act as a test field to see which methods work best. I’ll be using landscape fabric over the walkways to limit the w**d growth.
Yesterday, I dug up a bunch of rooted new canes and transplanted them to the new field. I’m excited to see another new field coming together.
In 2025 I planted the first 25 blackberries. They did so well and produced the biggest and sweetest blackberries I’ve ever seen or tasted. I quickly realized that 25 plants was not going to be enough. In the spring of this year, I added another 400 plants spread among 5 new varieties. With more and more calls daily looking for local fruit, I’ve decided to expand once more. Breaking new ground just a few weeks ago, creating 17 more rows to house approximately 400 more blackberry plants. My next project is to get the irrigation set up so we are ready to start watering them in the spring. I’m using a poly drip tubing with drips at every 12”. This is much stronger than the thinner drip lines that kink and leak which require replacing more often.

Who’s interested in cutting their own fresh Oklahoma grown eucalyptus?
Yes, it can be grown in Oklahoma.
I grow seven varieties at Ruzycki Farms. This is my second year growing them. Each plant was started from the tiniest little seeds you’ve ever seen, raised indoors and cared for for months before ever even seeing sunlight or feeling the wind. They were transplanted in early spring and have been growing vigorously for the last seven months. Several plants have become small trees reaching 10’ and 12’ tall with many branches measuring as long as 48”.
Each cutter would be escorted around the farm to see the plants growing in different areas and conditions while given a brief show and tell at each variety. Cut as much as you want and pay by the stem.
