Left straight from work to get these kittens and some meds. They were found in Johnstown and someone took them on for the night but didn’t feel equipped to vet them and while trying to find placement for them - ran into someone else with a kitten dragging its leg and took that one as well keeping the separated and safe until rescue was found. The tabbies are SPICERS right now. The one definitely tried to take a chunk outta my thumb this evening and they didn’t even get vaccines! That was just the drama from being held 🙄
They are sick baby kitties and I’m treating them with the assumptions it’s calicivirus because the one has a upper lip cut/maybe start of an ulcer so their cage is completely covered and everyone in that room is well vaccinated. My mom came up and took the dilute torti who was walking just fine by the time we got her. Sickie tabbies will be staying with us.
Every rescue and animal organization has illnesses. Sometimes it’s the right thing to do to close intakes until information is available or a plan is in place. But running into illnesses is inevitable and if we stop showing up because we *won’t* find a quarantine solution cats will just suffer. Rescues do a lot for this area out of our own house and unpaid time because there are no other resources. Does this make mine and Ryan’s life substantially harder? Sure does. Is it the right thing to do by these guys? Sure is.
They’re on tobramycin and amoxi-clav and we hope that will be enough. The one we couldn’t even get her eye open to see past swelling if there’s anything in there.
Please remember when donating that your money is immensely appreciated here and 0% goes to salaries and overhead expenses. Every renovation we have done to our house to maintain cleanliness, gas money, repairs on appliances for heavy animal care use has been 100% out of our own pocket. Not including the household supplies like trash bags, paper towels, bleach and detergent etc. Not a penny goes to anything but animals supplies and vetting. Check out local rescues when donating and supporting local animal welfare efforts. We are all burning out. 🧡
