Adoption Commitment Deposit Policy

Our volunteers and fosters set aside unpaid time in their work days and weekends to accommodate potential adopters needs regarding personal calls and meet and greets. Several times this month people have cancelled (not rescheduled) last minute once hours of work and planning have been dedicated to helping them find a furry friend because they decided suddenly they weren’t ready. We do not want someone adopting who isn’t genuinely ready but we cannot allow the mistreatment of ourselves to continue. There are multiple steps in our process with no same day adoptions - applicants have plenty of time to think this over before selecting a cat and scheduling a meet and greet.

Once an adoption application has been approved, a $25 non-refundable adoption commitment deposit is required before a meet & greet can be scheduled. Just because you are approved does not mean you will receive the animal of your choosing. We always pick best fit however once a commitment deposit is received, the animal cannot have additional meet and greets scheduled no matter the order of application.

The $25 deposit will be applied toward the animal’s total adoption fee if the adoption moves forward. Once the deposit has been received, Flood City Kitties will work with the approved adopter to schedule a meet & greet.

If you need to reschedule, at least 24 hours’ notice is required.
🧡Rescheduling with 24+ hours’ notice: No additional fee and your $25 deposit remains valid.
🧡Any time full cancellation, no-show, or rescheduling with less than 24 hours’ notice: The $25 deposit is forfeited.
🧡If an adopter decides they no longer wish to adopt after approval, the $25 deposit is non-refundable.

We want every adoption to be the right fit for both the animal and the adopter. If, after the meet & greet, Flood City Kitties determines that the animal is not an appropriate match for the household, the $25 deposit may be transferred toward the adoption of another eligible animal.

The deposit is not intended to pressure anyone into adopting an animal that isn’t the right fit ‼️It simply helps ensure that approved adopters are serious about moving forward and allows our foster families to plan accordingly.

Dolly and Loretta are sweet, sweet girls with a hankering for a heist 🥷

They’ve discovered their new favorite toys are necklaces and earrings. Especially when there’s a thrill of theft behind them! 😅

I can’t believe these gorgeous tabby girls haven’t gotten any applications. They are truly sweet and snuggly. The perfect kittens!

“Help me, I’m [cat tower] poor” -Reign and Sal being so utterly dramatic today acting like there isn’t a whole 2 other levels to lay on, a second tower right next to them, a queen size bed, or multiple cat beds throughout the room.

These two are some of our foster room greeters and we are enjoying their company for as long as we are able to! 🐈🐈

Yay! Our special Sylvie, now Tilly, found her people! They were looking for a special needs kitten and we had just the girl. From dragging her back legs and not being able to void her bowels or bladder without help to running around like a wild thing we are so honored to have known you and loved you.

We also got to hang out with Miranda Nicole and chat a little bit about rescue life and the unique challenges organizations and animals face in Cambria county for her article she’s writing for Johnstown Magazine. There are so many layers to rescue that people don’t realize. Rescue owners are constantly considering funds, marketing, leadership and management styles and needs, medical knowledge, ethics and legal requirements. We are essentially businesses with no financial return or corporate ladder to climb with achievements at the top. We do it because it’s the right thing to do. Very few understand the unique challenges and she is diving DEEP into it all.

Quincy had a vet visit Tuesday because he wasn’t acting right. He displayed signs of painful posturing and was lethargic. He started dry heaving and we knew he needed seen a third time 🫠. He had good bloodwork and exams except for his teeth. They seemed to have an infection start that wasn’t present with the last vet appointments and they scheduled him for a dental 2 days later (today). He luckily had no extractions but $420 later he was purring and eating like a champ! We still need to schedule his ear surgery for the bumps and lumps to be removed but for now, we are letting him recover and get back to his happy self.

Whiskey did a great job raising her babies with a kind soul who cared for them and found them homes. We offered to help by fixing her yesterday and then we decided to just keep her since Della Yurasek Csehoski stepped up to foster! 🎉

We cannot help kitties like Whiskey if we don’t have fosters. We don’t have a brick and mortar location. We don’t have a facility or employees who get paid to care for animals. We rely 100% on donors, adopters, and fosters to help the community. And when we don’t have those things - Ryan and I open our house further, our bank accounts wider, and set our alarms earlier to take it on.

We aren’t special, we have families and friends and full time jobs. Anyone can help make a difference! Send us a message to get started 🧡
