Just last week, I sat at my parent’s kitchen table talking with my parents and grandparents about how some days the barn can be just tough.
They proceeded to remind me that back in the day, young me dreamed to one day be where I am today. I remember making PowerPoints and doing all my research back then just to convince my dad that I should/could own my own horse. (I must add this was before I even had a job 🤦♀️) he always told me when I grow up I can do whatever I want to do. Both my parents always backed my passion for horses and would drive me to all the lessons, pay for my lessons and come alongside for the shows.
Fast forward, August 14th 2013 bennett and I sat on the hood of his truck up here on the property watching the sunset. He asked me what I always dreamed for in life.
Fast forward again to July 5th 2014, we brought Mia home. (Officially 12 years ago today)
September 2020 we opened Bergquist Farms with hopes to fill the barn with 8 horses (which we did within the first couple months!)
Now today, I walk through a beautiful barn full of 14 horses! That’s right! 14! Never in my mind did I think we’d have more than 8 and here I am with 14.
In the past 6 years I have had the pleasure of loving dozens of horses. Some have been with me since opening day, some new along the way, some have come and gone with training, some have passed over the rainbow bridge, some have come and gone and come back again. Each horse completely different and each has touched my heart in every way possible.
So yes, as I walk around the barn tonight and see a barn full of beautiful horses, that come with beautiful boarders, that have become family.
I AM truly living my dream.
For those wondering, on August 14th 2013, I told bennett I wanted horses in my backyard, a yard full of kids, a porch to watch the sunset and a house full of love. That night Bennett asked me to be his girlfriend and he bought the property we have since built our entire life on! None of this would have been without you Bennett!
