🔢Back Numbers: It’s All in the Details🔢

It only takes a moment sitting ringside at a horse show to appreciate the attention to detail that competitors bring to their sand-covered stage. Each crystal-covered jacket, perfectly placed band, tightly wrapped braid, and tangle-free tail creates a picture-perfect image for judges to evaluate. The effort and investment in competing in this sport cannot be overstated. Yet, there is one area that many exhibitors often overlook: the proper display of back numbers.

Hear from judge Sandy Curl and judge Leslie Lange about this rulebook topic:

We are big at teaching the "why" - this was too good not to share. It's the "little" things you do to help your horse that makes them happy and enjoy their time with you.
⬆️Pulling your saddle pad up into the pommel.
💪 It can can take a bit of practice with saddle shifting and pad pulling, but your horse will appreciate it.
🙁 Without being pulled up, when the saddle is cinched the pad presses down on the withers potentially causing discomfort.
😀 With the pad pulled up into the pommel the withers have room to move and there isn't a pressure point.
If you aren't already in the habit of doing this the next time you ride put your fingers between the pad and your horses withers while walking or trotting.
It's our job to make sure that they can comfortably carry us. This simple shift ⬆️ can help to make that happen.

I’m really looking forward to the upcoming Confidence in Motion workshop on Thursday, June 19 (Juneteenth) at Stone Wall Farms — there are still several spots open if anyone feels called to join.

This workshop is something truly special. We’ll be working with horses in a way most people never get to experience — no riding, just pure energetic connection. You’ll learn how to lounge with a horse, using your breath, posture, and presence to guide and connect. It’s powerful, grounding, and incredibly moving. We’ll also explore gentle yoga and breathwork to build confidence from the inside out.

If you’re off for the holiday and looking for a way to honor the day with something soulful and renewing, I’d love to have you with us. This workshop is close to my heart — and I think it might become one of yours too.
