⚠️ Big news!

We’re growing — because of you.

River Road Veterinary Hospital is expanding with two new exam rooms to help us offer more availability and an even better experience for our clients and patients.

During construction, you may notice some extra noise or occasional wait times. We truly appreciate your patience while we make these improvements.

Thank you for growing with us. 🫶 We’re so grateful for this community and excited for what’s ahead!!

Fleas have been especially persistent so far this year, and we know how frustrating it can be!

The important thing to know: flea control is not just about the fleas on your pet. Most of the flea population is usually in the environment — eggs, larvae, and pupae in bedding, rugs, furniture, flooring cracks, yards, porches, and under raised homes. (Hello New Orleans 🙃)

For the best results:
• Keep every pet in the home on effective flea prevention year-round
• Vacuum often and empty the vacuum outside
• Wash pet bedding and human bedding regularly
• Treat indoor areas where fleas hide
• Treat outdoor areas, especially porches, yards, decks, and under raised homes
• Stay consistent — heavy infestations can take time to fully clear

As we head into summer, fleas will just be getting worse. Call us to talk about flea prevention options for your pet - and also let us know if you'd like Dr. Wheeler's handout regarding flea infestations! 🐾

We have alert tags in our patient charts, like "loves peanut butter," "nervous," or even "happy pee-er" -- but the one on Sizsy's is probably our favorite patient alert: "smiles!" 😁

Tod’s case is a great example of doing what’s best for the patient - not just what’s most routine.

Bladder stones are often removed surgically (a cystotomy), which involves an incision into the bladder, sutures, and a typical post-surgical recovery period.

In Tod’s case, Dr. Wheeler was able to use a technique called voiding urohydropulsion. This means the bladder is filled with sterile fluid and gently flushed, allowing small stones to be passed out naturally through the urethra.

Not every pet is a candidate—stone size, number, and anatomy all matter—but when it’s possible, it avoids an invasive procedure entirely!

Same goal: removing the stones.
Better experience: no incision, less discomfort, faster recovery.

This is the kind of medicine we’re proud of—thoughtful, skilled, and tailored to each individual patient. 🐾
