Please excuse our parking lot’s dramatic phase. A small sinkhole has appeared and is currently auditioning for a role in IT. 🎈

It is roped off, but can be hard to spot, so please be careful when visiting. We love our clients and would prefer you not disappear into the void.

🐾 Your dog after annual lab work comes back looking great: 💃🕺

Meanwhile, your pet: "See? I told you I was fine."

Annual bloodwork isn't just for sick pets. It's how we catch problems before they become expensive, stressful, and worthy of a 2 a.m. Google search.

Think of it as reading the owner's manual before the check engine light comes on. 🚗🐶🐱

Schedule your pet's annual exam and lab work today. Because "he seems fine" has never been a medically approved diagnostic test. 😏🐾

🐾 You’d do anything to make them comfortable again.

Remember when they couldn't wait for a walk? When they jumped on the couch without a second thought? When they greeted you at the door with that familiar excitement?

Now they're moving a little slower.

Maybe they're struggling to get up in the morning. Hesitating before climbing stairs. Sleeping more. Playing less.

It's heartbreaking to watch because they're not just a pet. They're family. They've been by your side through life's biggest moments, and now they may be silently living with pain every day.

The good news? Growing older doesn't have to mean suffering.

✨ Laser Therapy is a gentle, pain-free treatment that helps reduce inflammation, relieve arthritis pain, improve mobility, and speed healing.

Many pet owners tell us they see a spark come back in their senior pet. More energy. Easier movement. More tail wags. More purrs. More of the pet they know and love.

Your best friend has given you years of unconditional love.

Now is your chance to give them the comfort they deserve.

❤️ Don't wait and assume "it's just old age."

📞 Call or text Deerwood Animal Clinic at 904-641-8685 to learn if laser therapy can help your pet feel like themselves again.

Because every extra comfortable day with them is a gift.

🍇 PSA from your friendly neighborhood vet clinic: Grapes and dogs do NOT mix.
We cannot stress this enough. And today, two very guilty patients proved it in the most dramatic — and educational — way possible.

Here's what happened: A bag of grapes hit the floor. Two dogs seized the moment. Mom called us immediately (✨ the right move ✨) and we said "Get here NOW."

We induced vomiting in both dogs. And welp... let's just say we now have photographic evidence of exactly who in this household chews their food and who treats every meal like a competitive eating contest.

One dog: whole grapes. Pristine. Virtually untouched. A crime scene of laziness.
The other dog: thoroughly chewed. An overachiever, truly.

Both dogs are doing great — because Mom acted FAST. That's the whole story. That's the hero arc.

Now, why are grapes so dangerous?

Even a small amount can cause sudden, severe kidney failure in dogs — and we still don't know exactly which compound causes it. Every dog reacts differently. Some eat a few and are fine; others go into kidney failure from just one or two. There's NO "safe" amount.

This applies to ALL forms: fresh grapes, raisins, grape juice, trail mix, raisin bread, wine. Yes, wine. Don't share your wine with your dog.

If your dog eats grapes — do not wait to see what happens. Call us 904-641-8685 or the ASPCA Animal Poison Control Center (888-426-4435) immediately. Time is everything.

Big love to today's patients Juliet & Hank for being such good sports. And to their mom for doing everything right. You are the blueprint. 🐾

⛈️ HURRICANE SEASON STARTS TODAY ⛈️

Florida friends, hurricane season runs from June 1 through November 30, and while you're stocking up on water, batteries, and snacks, don't forget the family members with paws. 🐾

When a storm is headed our way, pet supplies disappear fast. Preparing now can save you a lot of stress later.

🐶🐱 Your Pet Hurricane Kit Checklist:

✅ At least 7 days of food and treats
✅ Fresh water (1 gallon per pet per day is a good rule)
✅ Food and water bowls
✅ Any medications with a copy of prescriptions
✅ Leash, harness, and carrier/crate
✅ Vaccination records and medical history in a waterproof bag
✅ Recent photos of your pet (in case you become separated)
✅ ID tags and microchip information updated
✅ Waste bags, litter, and litter box supplies
✅ Comfort items like favorite toys, blankets, or beds
✅ Pet first aid kit

🚨 Important Reminder:
If you evacuate, take your pets with you. If it isn't safe for you, it isn't safe for them.

A little preparation today can make a huge difference tomorrow. Let's keep every member of the family safe this hurricane season. ❤️🐾 *Share this checklist to help other pet owners be prepared this season.*

🚨🎉 HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO SUSAN 🎉🚨

Today we celebrate the workplace’s favorite tiny menace.

Susan may be short, but what she lacks in height she makes up for in speed, mood swings, and volume. Scientists are still studying how someone with legs that short manages to drive that fast. Honestly, NASCAR may want to run some tests.

If you’ve ever heard uncontrollable laughing echoing through the building followed by mild chaos… congratulations, you’ve experienced a Susan sighting.

Every day with Susan is a mystery:Will she be cracking jokes and laughing so hard she can’t breathe? 🤣Will she be in one of her “don’t even look at me today” moods? 😒Will she somehow arrive at work in record time despite leaving 4 minutes ago? 🚗💨

But one thing we all know for sure: work would be way more boring without her hilarious commentary, dramatic reactions, and reckless commitment to treating speed limits as “friendly suggestions.”

Susan, we adore your tiny chaotic energy, your giant personality, and your ability to make us laugh even when you’re grumpy.

Happy Birthday to the only person who can go from laughing hysterically to threatening side-eye in under 3 seconds. Please enjoy your birthday… and for the love of everyone on the road, slow down. 🎂😂🚔

🐾 “I swear I just have a big personality…” said every slightly round pet ever.

We get it. Treats are love. Leftovers are “just a bite.” And those puppy eyes could negotiate world peace.

But here’s the real talk: extra weight on pets isn’t just a “cute phase.” It can quietly lead to joint pain, diabetes, heart strain, and a shorter zoomie lifespan (and nobody wants fewer zoomies… that’s basically a tragedy).

The good news? This isn’t about guilt. It’s about small, doable tweaks:

A little less “just one more treat”
A little more daily movement (yes, even the cat can participate… begrudgingly)
And a quick weight check to know where things really stand

We’re here for the whole journey no judgment, just honest help and a few gentle reality checks when those eyes get too persuasive.

If your pet has been “working on their summer body” for the last three summers… it might be time for a weigh-in 😄

📍 Let’s get them feeling lighter, healthier, and ready for more tail wags, zoomies, and couch negotiations.

🐾 Case of the Day: Marco, the Mystery Eye & a Team That Never Stops Learning

Photo 1: Dr. Williams and Dr. Benson with Marco, carefully examining him while the team gathers around to learn in real time. Moments like this are exactly why we do what we do medicine isn’t static, and neither are we. Every patient becomes a lesson, every exam a chance to grow, and every staff member gets a front-row seat to better care.

Learning never stops here… and that’s how “good” becomes “better.”

Photo 2: Marco’s eye up close 👁️
See that discoloration?

What do you think it is?
A. Blue contacts
B. Corneal ulcer
C. He was born that way

If you picked B — you’re right!

A corneal ulcer is essentially a painful scratch or open sore on the surface of the eye. It can happen from trauma, irritation, or infection—and it needs prompt treatment to protect vision and comfort.

Today, Marco was given a topical anesthetic for comfort, and the surface of the cornea was carefully debrided to remove damaged tissue and help it heal faster and cleaner.

During his exam, we also noted a small red mass on his mouth and that his face was itchy. We’ll be following up on that at his recheck to make sure nothing important gets missed.

Marco did his part like a champ. The team did theirs with focus and care. And the learning? That never clocked out.

🐶💙 Here’s to curious cases, compassionate medicine, and pets who keep us on our toes (and sometimes up close and personal with microscopes).
