🐾 IT’S NATIONAL DOG DAY! 🐾

Finally. A national holiday your dog can fully support. 😂🐶

Today we celebrate the four-legged freeloaders who…

🐾 Sleep 14 hours a day and still act exhausted.
🧀 Can hear a cheese wrapper open from three rooms away.
🚪 Need to go outside, immediately want back inside, then reconsider everything.
🛏️ Take up 87% of a bed despite weighing 22 pounds.
👀 Follow us to the bathroom because apparently we require supervision.
💸 Have absolutely NO JOB yet somehow have a doctor, hairstylist, personal chef, chauffeur and an entire Amazon subscription.

And we wouldn’t have it any other way. ❤️

Dogs make our homes messier, our clothes hairier, our bank accounts lighter and our lives infinitely better.

So today, give your dog an extra belly rub, sneak them a special treat and remind them what a VERY GOOD BOY or GIRL they are.

🎂🐾 THIRTEEN YEARS OF WHISKEY! 🐾🎂

Today we’re celebrating a very special senior gentleman... Whiskey is officially 13 years young! 🥳

Whiskey belongs to our technician Kailey, which means he’s spent the last 13 years enjoying all the perks of having a veterinary professional for a mom. You know... unlimited medical advice, suspiciously frequent ear checks, someone always noticing when you “just don’t seem quite yourself,” and absolutely ZERO chance of pretending you already took your medicine. 😂

At 13, Whiskey has earned the right to do pretty much whatever he wants. Sleep in? Absolutely. Demand snacks? Obviously. Stare at Kailey until she correctly guesses what he needs? Senior privilege. 👑

There’s just something extra special about watching our pets grow old beside us. Their faces get a little whiter, their naps get a little longer, and somehow we love them even more than we thought possible. ❤️

So today we’re celebrating 13 wonderful years of Whiskey and wishing this handsome birthday boy plenty of treats, cozy naps, belly rubs, and perhaps a little selective hearing when Mom says, “That’s enough snacks.” 🎉🐶

Some of you know Victoria’s story, but many may not know how much the Child Cancer Fund of Jacksonville meant to our family.

When I wasn’t wearing my veterinarian hat, I was a cancer mom—and when I felt like I couldn’t get back up, this organization helped support me, Victoria, and our family so we could keep walking a road none of us ever wanted to take. ❤️ This video is a little glimpse into what the Child Cancer Fund has meant to us over the years.

Just because she’s pocket-sized does NOT mean you can put her in your scrub pocket and take her home. 😂🐱

Look at that face.

That is NOT the face of an innocent veterinary professional simply cuddling a kitten.

That is the face of someone thinking:

🚨 NEW HUMAN ALERT AT DEERWOOD! 🚨

Everybody say HELLO to ANN, the newest brave soul to join our Deerwood reception team! 🐾☎️😂

Ann comes to us with veterinary experience, which means she already understands that working reception at an animal hospital requires a very particular set of skills:

🐶 Deciphering “He’s acting weird”
🐱 Remaining calm when someone says, “My cat is really sweet!”
☎️ Answering the phone while three other phones develop separation anxiety
💻 Learning approximately 4,782 computer buttons
🩺 Translating veterinary speak into actual human words
😆 And discovering that around here, “normal day” is mostly a theoretical concept.

She’s currently learning the Deerwood Way, getting acquainted with our patients, figuring out where we hide everything, and probably wondering exactly what she signed up for. 😏

We’re SO happy to have Ann joining our crew, and we know our clients will love getting to know her!

So if you see this smiling face at the front desk, be sure to give her a big WELCOME TO DEERWOOD! 💙🐾

🎒 Back to School... But Nobody Asked

Do pets get depressed when the kids go back to school?
The short answer?
Sometimes... yes.
Your dog doesn't know what a school bus is or why math homework
exists. They just know that their favorite tiny humans suddenly
vanished for eight hours and the house went from a WWE wrestling
match to complete silence.
For many pets, that's a pretty big adjustment.
🐶 Why does it happen?
All summer long, your pet has probably enjoyed:
Constant attention
Extra playtime
Random snacks dropped from little hands (accidentally... or not)
Family walks
Afternoon naps with someone nearby
Then one Monday morning...
Everyone disappears.
To your pet, it can feel like someone hit the mute button on their
favorite TV show.

📚 Does your pet wait at the window for the kids to come home from school? We'd
LOVE to see a photo! Drop it in the comments! 🐶🐱

However, if your pet stops eating, seems unusually withdrawn,
becomes destructive, or shows signs of severe anxiety for more
than a couple of weeks, it's worth scheduling a visit with your
veterinarian. Sometimes what looks like sadness may actually be a
medical problem or a more significant case of separation anxiety.
After all...
Your pet spent the whole summer building memories with their
favorite little people.
Now they're counting the hours until that yellow bus brings them
back.
And let's be honest...

🏁🌭 BREAKING NEWS: THE WE**IE HAS BEEN RELEASED. 🌭🏁

Ladies and gentlemen, start your we**ies.

Our patient MOOSE, a 17-month-old Dachshund and certified high-performance cocktail sausage, recently entered the Weenapalooza We**ie Races and brought home 3RD PLACE! 🥉🏆

THIRD. PLACE.

With legs roughly the length of a mozzarella stick.

Moose rolled up to that starting line built like a stretch limo with four chicken nuggets underneath it and said:

“I feel the need. The need for WE**IE SPEED.” 🌭💨

And when that race started?

🚨 THE SAUSAGE WAS LOOSE. 🚨

Four tiny legs started churning.

Long body engaged.

Ears entered full aerodynamic flap mode.

And 47 inches of we**ie went absolutely HAULING BUNS down that track. 😂

Spectators were stunned.

Other we**ies were rattled.

Hot dogs everywhere questioned their athletic ability.

We can only assume Moose’s training regimen included:

🌭 Couch-to-5K... mostly couch
🌭 Repeated refrigerator sprints
🌭 Advanced treat-bag recognition
🌭 Professional-level blanket burrowing
🌭 Daily practice of running away when someone says “Nail trim!”

Some people see a Dachshund.

We see a low-riding, long-bodied, German-engineered land missile.

A we**ie with a dream.

A bratwurst with BOOSTERS.

A frankfurter with a finish line.

And now...

🥉 THE THIRD-FASTEST WE**IE AT WEENAPALOOZA! 🥉
