✈️💙Talk about a special delivery!

Jacksonville Zoo and Botanical Gardens is excited to welcome Hundo, a rescued manatee who traveled from the Cincinnati Zoo & Botanical Garden to continue his rehabilitation right here in Florida. And this was no ordinary trip!

On Tuesday, Hundo boarded a DHL Express cargo flight from Cincinnati/Northern Kentucky International Airport to Orlando before completing the final leg of his journey by specialized ground transport to Jacksonville.

Getting a manatee safely from one state to another takes incredible coordination and care. Hundo traveled in a custom-built container designed to support his body, maintain his temperature and keep his skin moist, while Animal Care and Veterinary professionals monitored his well-being throughout the journey.

This transfer is part of a collaborative effort through the Manatee Rescue & Rehabilitation Partnership (MRP), bringing together organizations including the Cincinnati Zoo, Columbus Zoo and Aquarium, SeaWorld Orlando, East Coast Zoological Foundation at Brevard Zoo and DHL Express to help rescued manatees recover and return to the wild.

Rescued in Crystal River in March 2025 at just 119 pounds, Hundo now weighs 546 pounds! He’ll continue receiving specialized care in our J. Wayne and Delores Barr Weaver Manatee River habitat as he works toward the ultimate goal of returning to Florida’s waters.

Welcome back to Florida, Hundo! We’re proud to be part of the team giving rescued manatees a second chance in the wild.
