🎶 School’s out for summer! 🎶 (Volume UP)
Our amazing herd is officially out for summer too!
Watch them kick up their heels, hear the thunder of their pounding hooves as they head to those lush green pastures for the next few weeks of well-deserved R&R before overnight camp kicks off!
This school year, these incredible horses taught eager kids about the four senses of the horse, herd mentality, horsemanship, grooming, anatomy, and so much more! The younger students enjoyed pony rides paired with our science-based horse curriculum, while our older students took everything they learned out on the trails, many of them as first-time riders!
There’s nothing better than watching a child who walked into the classroom saying, “I’m NOT getting on,” end up riding proudly with the encouragement of their teachers, wranglers, and classmates. The cheers, the high-fives, the pure pride on their faces… it fills my ❤️ every single time. Those are usually the kids who are first to say, “Can I do it again?!”
A huge thank you to our fantastic Wranglers; our Directors of Outdoor Education and their talented group of Outdoor Educators; the leadership here at camp; the YMCA of Greater Toledo for supporting this amazing program and camp; all the incredible schools and teachers who trusted YMCA Storer Camps with their students; and most of all, these special horses!
Though many of them have had successful careers in the show ring, on cattle farms, at racetracks, and beyond, I truly believe they are living their best lives here, being adored by and serving children while being cared for by the best professional wrangler team I’ve ever worked with, led by our talented and dedicated Barn Manager, Jess Omey. Along with our wrangler team, she tends to their every need, no matter the situation, time of day, or weather conditions.
Have the best time in the pasture, our sweet herd! Graze, roll, nap in the sun, and soak it all in. We’ll see you soon, well rested and ready for summer camp adventures!
