Meet Dr. Maddie Terrell! 🐾

Dr. Maddie Terrell is a proud graduate of the University of Georgia College of Veterinary Medicine. Her clinical interests include neurology and behavior, and she enjoys helping pets and their families navigate both complex medical conditions and behavioral concerns.

Outside of the clinic, Dr. Terrell loves spending time with her husband and their 9 month old daughter. When she gets some free time, you can find her playing Dungeons & Dragons, heading to a concert, or enjoying time with her family.

We’re so excited to have Dr. Terrell as part of the Brookwood Animal Hospital family and can’t wait for you to meet her! ❤️🐾

🩺🐾 Bladder Stones: What Pet Parents Should Know

Bladder stones can sometimes develop without obvious warning signs, and pets are pretty good at hiding when something doesn’t feel right.

Some signs to watch for:
• Frequent trips outside or to the litter box
• Straining to urinate
• Urinating only small amounts
• Blood in the urine
• Accidents in the house
• Excessive licking of the urinary area
• Restlessness or discomfort

Bladder stones can vary in size and type, and treatment may range from dietary changes to surgical removal.

The biggest takeaway? Pay attention to changes in your pet’s normal bathroom habits. Even a small change can be their way of telling you something isn’t right. ❤️

⚠️ Patient came in because of persistent gagging and “bad” breath. During the exam, a large growth was found on the tongue that was likely contributing to both problems.

While under anesthesia, P received:
🦷 A complete dental cleaning
✂️ Surgical removal of the tongue mass
🔬 Submission of the tissue to the laboratory for testing

Persistent bad breath, gagging, difficulty eating, drooling, or changes in the mouth should always be checked by your veterinarian. Early detection can make a huge difference. ❤️🐾

For some reason, many pets find hair ties irresistible. While we don’t know exactly why they’re so appealing, even ONE hair tie can become lodged in the stomach or intestines, causing a life-threatening blockage that may require emergency surgery.
Keep hair ties, rubber bands, and other small stretchy items out of reach. A few seconds of prevention could save your pet’s life. ❤️
