Looking for something to do this next Sunday morning? A quick walk in Miners Memorial Heritage Park (with or without your dog!) is a good way to start the day. $15 entry fee with some give away prizes will help the Dog Park pay for annual upkeep costs.

HOPE Animal Shelter was one of several organizations that benefited from the community service projects undertaken today by the God's Work, Our Hands volunteers from Psalm Shared Ministries from All Saints in Bessemer and Wakefield. Give shy cats a chance! Sadly shy and nervous cats tend to get very little attention at shelters and often stay the longest. We have a few of those types right now, who would do best in quieter homes with people willing to be slow and patient with them. Do you have a calm, quiet home and could you help a shy cat come out of their shell? It’s so rewarding to see them blossom!

Waylon (currently in foster) and Banana Split are overwhelmed by the shelter environment and tend to hide from view. Both would do well in quiet homes without small children. Waylon could potentially live with calm dogs (he’s made great progress learning to live with a dog in his foster home!) but Banana Split would do better without dogs around.

Detective Cat M.D., Sprite, Temple, and Sammy Sriracha have less interest in people at this point but are very curious about other cats. They could do well in a quiet home with a confident and friendly resident cat who could help show them how to relax and open up to human affection. Temple and Sammy love to play and love food so that would help their progress dramatically!

Check out more info about these cats on our website, www.hopeanimalshelter.org, or stop by and meet them! If a more outgoing cat is your preference, we have plenty of those as well!

Posting on behalf of the Iron King Dog Park:

HOUND DOG HIKE coming up! Believe the last one we held was in 2021. Details so far (with firm plans in the next couple of days): SUNDAY, SEPT 14th between 9am & 12pm. Plan on the Dog Park being closed to all off-leash dogs from 8 am until noon.
Entry fee used to pay for doggy bags, lawn mowing, fence repairs, entry gate repairs. It generally costs about $1000/year to cover various expenses. This has nothing to do with the other fundraising activities for the proposed small dog park. Proceeds from this event benefit only the existing Iron King Dog Park.
We might have a couple food trucks on site and will post a flyer with entry fee info as soon as all plans are finalized. Cross your fingers for some beautiful autumn weather, bring your pup for a walk, but honestly, it's NOT required you bring a dog along!!

This handsome canine is AMARI, a 2.5 year old Rhodesian Ridgeback / Blue Nose Pit mix that was surrendered to HOPE when his owner left for school. AMARI is a friendly guy who is housebroken and good with children. AMARI does have a high prey drive, so he should not live with cats or other small animals. He can be a little shy at first, but a treat quickly wins this guy over and he is soon your new best friend. Please stop by to meet this handsome fella and see if he might be a good fit for your family. If so, take him home for HALF OFF our regular adoption fee!

Also, check out our website and see photos, bios, and videos of all of our available pets. Just click on the name or photo of each pet and scroll down: www.hopeanimalshelter.org

** UPDATE: Thanks to everyone who stopped at our booth yesterday, couldn't have had better weather, not too hot and no rain!! We sold a couple dozen shirts, had more than a few bucks stuffed into the donation box, answered questions about our new prefab kennel space being delivered in the Spring, had a couple people leave us names/numbers for volunteer fostering and heard lots of stories about pets adopted from us over the years!

C'mon down to Hurley's Festival Italiano. Beautiful day to be out.
