Over the past year, I have had the privilege of walking alongside families during some of the hardest moments they have ever faced.

I have met beloved dogs who spent years greeting their families at the door. Cats who were constant companions through every season of life. Rabbits, guinea pigs, snakes, and so many other cherished friends whose lives left a lasting mark on the people who loved them.

Every phone call has reminded me that no two stories are the same.

Some families wanted to share memories. Some needed quiet reassurance. Some simply needed someone to help them take the next step.

One year.

It feels hard to put into words what this first year of Paws’d in Time has meant to me.

This business was never just about offering a service. It was about giving families in Northern Michigan a local, personal choice during one of the hardest goodbyes they will ever face.

Over this past year, I have been trusted with pets who were deeply loved. I have answered calls from families who were heartbroken and unsure what to do next. I have listened to stories, learned names, and been reminded over and over again that these goodbyes matter.

I talk a lot about dignity, compassion, and giving families a choice when it is time to say goodbye.
A big reason this work matters so much to me is because I am a pet owner too.

The dachshund in our cover photo is my late Lucky Franklin Weiner. He is part of the heart behind Paws’d in Time.

Today, my home is kept under close watch by Adeline June, my 9-year-old dachshund, and Doc Watson, my 2-year-old Yorkie.

Adeline takes her security duties very seriously. She is especially skilled at searching for critters that may or may not be somewhere underground, and she has dug plenty of holes trying to find them. Her random barking from under her burrow, and her late-night patrols around the outside of the house, surely keep away the things that go bump in the night.

Doc Watson is convinced he rules the roost. His expressions, wit, and personality make it very clear that he always has something to say. Most of the time, he is letting me know that one of the food bowls is lower than he prefers. Not empty. Just not full enough for his liking. He has kept Adeline young and playful, and he is a fantastic listener.

They are a daily reminder of why Paws’d in Time exists. Pets are family. They have personalities, routines, quirks, and a place in our homes that cannot be replaced.

When the time comes to say goodbye, that love deserves to be honored with care, dignity, and compassion.

I want to share a little more about why Paws’d in Time exists.

Paws’d in Time is not part of a corporate partnership. I’m not here to be the biggest company in the room. I’m here to give local families a choice when they have to say goodbye to a pet they love.

My family roots in Northern Michigan go back nearly 150 years. This is home. I’m your neighbor.

I grew up as a farmer’s daughter, and caring for animals has always been part of who I am. That care and compassion led me to become a vet tech early in my career, and that is where the seed for Paws’d in Time was first planted.

Life took me in other directions. I became an RN. I owned two restaurants. But my love for animals and compassion for families never went away.

Paws’d in Time was created to offer compassionate, dignified pet aftercare at a reasonable, affordable price.
