Here she is again bringing it in ! 10 months first time with real bird in water .
Here she is on her first real bird water retrieve 10 months green swimmer ( as she was late fall puppy ) . She watched her kennel mate mentor stud dog do a few retrieves (she assisted wadding in and the land side scramble to deliver it to me ) .
Then I kenneled the mentor dog and this was results in 10 mins we now have another water fowl dog. Sure we have a lot of refining to do and get her to bring it to me directly but the basics are now installed and she gets the job basics. She’s never handled a dummy or really has lifted anything with real weight . And now she is keen to do this multi able times in a row .
Duel purpose dogs 😉
While chasing down my mothers tiny house dog who escaped her deck . I found an approx 20 lb gosling that had passed away by lake on lawn.
So in order to not waist an opportunity to train a 10 month old puppy . I had my older male stud dog come down to lake and show her what water retrieves are all about .
So this is his example runs she’s interacting and watching him work the bird in water .
He brings it to me despite being jumped on by the puppy and handles her over zealous interference with grace and patience never even growling at her, simply does his job. Testament to his wonderful temperament and his ability to train his pups and others by his shining example.
She being a late fall puppy has only started swimming when water got warm as we have time to play stick fetch with her .
This bloodline takes to water very well and to water fowl very naturally in addition to up land-game birds . Next I’ll post her first swimming retrieve of a 20lb plus goose gosling in water after following her mentor dogs example. She has had Pheasant Experiance with another female mentor dog late last fall and is extremely birdy .
“Henry” now know as Petey is doing well with place and retrieval work on this nice spring day with his owner !
We have a couple of his brothers available who are just as nice available AKC GSPs.
