We are more than just an animal shelter. We are a lifeline for pets and the people who love them. Our Community Pet Food Pantry helps local families keep their pets happy, healthy, and at home where they belong.

Our pet food pantry is located at our shelter, 636 Violet Avenue, Hyde Park, NY.

Dutchess County pet owners who are struggling to feed their pets may acquire dog and cat food directly from us. The pantry will be open by appointment 7 days a week and will be available to people on public assistance, seniors on fixed income, or anyone who can demonstrate need in some way. People wishing to avail themselves of this service will be briefly interviewed to determine the appropriate amount and diet for their pets, and then be given new, unopened bags and cans of pet food free of charge.

We also have small critter bedding available!

Anyone wishing to make an appointment to receive food or the small critter bedding should contact Dan O’Connell by calling 845-452-7722 ext. 435 or by emailing [email protected].

You can help your neighbors and their furry friends too by donating unopened cat & dog food! Together we can keep tails wagging and families together.

We have a donation box right outside our front door that is open even when we aren't. If you have any questions, leave us a comment or DM. Thank you for your support!

Meet Q92's Pet of the week: Lexy!

This 3-year-old mixed breed came to us with roughly cropped ears, but her sweet, loving spirit shines bright. She’s smart (knows sit, lay down & come!), adores kids, and would make a wonderful family dog.

Lycan just celebrated his first birthday! 🎉 He’s a playful, cuddly pup who just needs a little patience to shine. He's a playful, energetic dog who is looking for his forever home. He'd do best in a home with someone around often as he tends to experience separation anxiety. Lycan’s ready to find the loving family he deserves!

Check out Marge’s handmade hats at our thrift store!

I would like to introduce you to Marge S.
Marge is the lovely lady who knits all the winter hats for us to sell. Marge also processes all our linens for our store. She is a great asset to the store, the shelter and all the animals! Marge is one of those hero's you would never hear about. We love her!

Meet Harmony, a stunning 10-year-old white cat with delicate gray markings, looking for her forever home. Found as a stray and never reclaimed, she’s now ready to settle into a quiet, loving environment. Harmony is incredibly sweet and gentle—she loves being near her people and is happiest curled up in a cozy lap, purring contentedly. Harmony is a special needs cat with hyperthyroidism, a manageable condition that requires daily medication and regular vet visits. She takes her medicine well and remains loving and social. If you're ready to open your heart to a special cat who will return your love tenfold, Harmony is waiting to bring warmth and comfort into your life.

✨ Foster Feature: Scott & Uno! ✨

Fostering saves lives! By opening their homes, our fosters give animals the love, care, and stability they need until they find forever families. We’re so grateful for these incredible heroes who make our work possible every day.

We asked Scott what fostering meant to him, and he told us:

"For us, fostering an animal is a unique opportunity to be able to nurture, train, socialize, love, discipline, and give a needy animal a life outside the kennel until they are ready for a new home. The challenges with all the different dogs we have fostered have been rewarded with them all being placed with a forever family. We have spent several months with our lovable big boy, Uno, and he is ready. He loves routine, lots of exercise, a hard ball, and attention. Hope a loving person(s) will give him all this and more!"
