Mountain Mutt Monday⛰️🐕

Today’s spotlight features Remus!

Remus has been working hard on building reliable obedience and developing good everyday manners. At the end of his lesson, he even got the opportunity to socialize with some of our crew! ( video in comments )

Remus and his owner have been putting in the time and effort, making steady progress toward their training goals!

Keep up the great work, Remus!

Chewy is a 10 year old dog who has spent the last 5 years living in an outside kennel at a rescue. In those 5 years she hasn’t been around another dog without getting into a spat, she’s never had any training, and she’s certainly never been off leash.

It’s been a big adjustment for her - being in a home, sharing a space with other dogs, and so on. It’s not been completely smooth sailing.

New routines take time, old habits resurface. There’s a lack of social experience that has led to inappropriate reactions with some of our dogs. Nevertheless - those questions in her head about how to navigate these situations must be answered.

It’s been challenging. She’s had a lot of years without these types of meaningful and productive interactions. And yet, she shows us every day that old dogs can learn new tricks.

A new chapter is on the horizon for Fitz! We will be preparing him for his new life in the coming weeks. His new owners plan to take him out to dog friendly restaurants and coffee shops, so of course I’m going to go get bloated and call it training. Make sure to follow our page to see more updates!

Chewy is 10 years old and has been at the shelter for the last 5 years of her life! In this video you’ll see some of what her training looks like. The last clip is from today and an example of what 20 days of hard work can look do!

In all seriousness, I am incredibly thankful for Chewy and the opportunity to learn from her. Given her history and age I wasn’t sure what to expect, but at the end of the day she is a healthy dog - so the work really hasn’t looked much different from any of the other dogs we’ve trained! We still have plenty more to work on, follow our page to see next update!

Uncut video working Della’s obedience. Very proud of how far this girl has come! We will continue pushing distractions, duration and working in different environments!

Training doesn’t stop just because we do. Every interaction we have with our dogs we are teaching SOMETHING, the question is - what?

🇺🇸 Happy Labor Day! 🇺🇸

Taking the day off? Not this guy. He’s been working hard on his bark all year. 😂🐾

Here’s to a day of relaxing, recharging, and maybe barking for a toy!

Happy Labor Day from Mountain Mutts! ❤️🤍💙

This week’s Adventure Walk crew 🐕🌿

Lots of sniffing, exploring, and practicing those real-world skills!

Adventure Walks are more than just a walk—they’re a chance for your dog to get exercise while working their brain and practicing good manners outside the house.

Will your dog listen to you in public without the presence of rewards? What if they’re off leash and in an excited state of mind?

We believe dogs should be able to do both! If you’re interested in being able to communicate effectively with your canine companion, send us a message!
