We have some VERY SAD NEWS to share….Drago’s new foster dad has passed away suddenly, so poor Drago, who finally had a dad, a bed, and love, is heading back to us here at the rescue. Meet Dex from the Town of Hempstead Animal Shelter in Wantagh, NY! This 5 year young German Shepherd mix is a sweet, playful, and affectionate dog who thrives with structure, guidance, and love. Dex is friendly and social with strangers, enjoys playtime with toys, and eagerly seeks affection from his people. He knows basic commands like sit, down, stay, speak, and paw, though he could use some reinforcement with crate and leash training. Dex has a history of food guarding, so he'll do best with an experienced adopter who understands his needs and can provide consistency, clear boundaries, and patience. With the right guidance, Dex is ready to become a loyal, loving, and devoted companion in a home with older teens.

Meet Bernie!
Bernie is 7.5 years young and has been waiting at the Town of Hempstead Animal Shelter in Wantagh, NY since September 2024 for someone to see the wonderful dog hiding behind his kennel door. Once you get to know him, you'll discover a goofy, lovable guy with a big personality and an even bigger love for toys. Tennis balls? He'd happily collect as many as he can fit in his mouth. Jolly Balls, nyla bones, tough chew toys, you name it, Bernie is all in. He's just as happy entertaining himself with a favorite toy as he is sharing a game with you. But Bernie isn't all play. He also has a softer side. He loves leaning against his people for affection, greeting friends with a loose, wiggly body and a happy smile. He knows his basic cues, walks nicely on leash and is highly treat motivated. Like all of us, Bernie has his quirks. He can become overstimulated with too much physical affection, so he does best with someone who understands his body language and can help him stay successful. Because of this, Bernie is looking for an adult or older teen home where his boundaries will be respected. He would also prefer to be your one and only pet. Bernie has spent far too long watching other dogs leave while he waits for his turn. Maybe the home Bernie has been waiting for... is yours!

BRUISER definitely put his best paw forward at our adoption event! His tail wagged nonstop for 4 hours, kisses were free and plentiful and he happily welcomed every pup that walked thru the door.
He still wasn’t adopted 😞 we would LOVE to see him in an amazing family with his own place on the couch. WHERE HE BELONGS! He doesn’t understand why he didn’t walk out the front door with a family. Call us at 917 685-8422 to meet him!
