Summer in Houston is no joke, and hot pavement can be dangerous for your dog’s paws.

Before heading out for a walk, try the 10–15 second test: place your hand on the concrete and keep it there. If it’s too hot for your hand, it’s too hot for their feet.

Walk early, walk late, check the pavement, and when in doubt — skip it.

Your dog doesn’t need to be underfoot every time food is involved.

Whether you’re preparing their meal, cooking dinner, or hosting friends and family, boundary control matters. Your dog can stand, sit, or lay down nearby, but they don’t need to crowd you, jump on you, or try to force your hand.

Calm around food is trained. And once your dog understands that food doesn’t mean chaos, it creates a safer, more peaceful environment for everyone.

Have a dog that struggles to settle, relax, or find a sense of calm?

Try adding some background music. 🎵

It might sound simple, but the right music can help create a more peaceful environment for your dog. Gentle classical music (like Beethoven’s Sonata Pathétique), lullabies, rhythmic instrumental music, American Indian chants, Gregorian chants, and spa-style music (without chirping birds, crickets, or other nature sounds) can all help reduce stimulation and encourage rest.

It’s something we use throughout the day at our DOGMAN boutique to help create a calm, balanced atmosphere for our dogs.

While music isn’t a cure-all, it can be a valuable tool for dogs who have difficulty switching gears and settling down.

Meet our June Dog of the Month: Bagwell 🐾

Some dogs leave a mark on your heart, and Bagwell is one of them.

Not only is he the sweetest, most affectionate boy around, but he’s also one of the biggest transformations we’ve seen at DOGMAN. His journey is a true success story and a reminder of what’s possible when dogs are given the right guidance, structure, and trust.

Today, Bagwell is calm, respectful, and confident. He loves a good cuddle, takes his boundaries seriously, and somehow always knows which rooms are off-limits. He’s protective of the people he loves and has become an incredible companion to his family.

And if you happen to be cooking eggs? You’ll probably find him nearby, sniffing the air and licking his lips in anticipation. 🍳
