Finca Tres Robles nurtures a culture of health in Houston’s East End to renew the bond between people, place and food. We have developed our farm as essential health infrastructure to upend systemic inequalities at the neighborhood level. We invest in small solutions as the pathway to realizing larger structural change. Finca Tres Robles was started in 2014 on a 1.25 acre lot on Houston’s East Sid

e just 4 miles from Houston’s City Hall where we have been growing organic herbs, fruits, and vegetables to be sold to families and individuals directly from our farm. While this produce will not only be convenient, healthy and accessible to individuals in the area, we are working to make it affordable to the immediate 2nd Ward community as a way to begin to challenge the food system of the neighborhood, to build relationships, and to keep money here in our immediate, local economy. Finca Tres Robles is operated by Small Places, a nonprofit dedicated to cultivating community health through urban farming, and is the first urban farm in our vision of a network of community farms in Houston.

¡El calor de Houston no es problema para nuestras judías verdes de una yarda!

Esta variedad es originaria del sudeste asiático y crece bien en esta época del año. Podrás verlas trepando por nuestra malla de espaldera, con sus judías colgando, al llegar a la granja. Saben mejor salteadas, pero también se pueden cocinar al v***r.

La próxima vez que nos visites, ¡da un paseo por el pasillo de judías y luego compra algunas en nuestra tienda!

Houston Heat is no problem for our Yard Long Beans!

This variety is native to Southeast Asia and grows well this time of year. You can spot the rows of them climbing up our trellis netting with their beans dangling down as you pull up to the farm. They are best sautéed but can be steamed as well.

Next time you visit, take a quick stroll to the aisle of beans and then pick some up from the aisle in our Store!

We’re in the middle of installing irrigation at the farm! 🌱💧

Trenches have been dug, PVC lines are in, and we’re finalizing connections for each field. Once everything is set, we’ll be using drip irrigation paired with timers to help manage our water use efficiently. Conserving water in the Texas heat is key, and this system helps us get the right amount to where the plants need it most -- at their roots.

Thank you to the who helped fund our irrigation system!

¡Estamos instalando el sistema de riego en la granja! 🌱💧

Ya cavamos zanjas, instalamos las líneas de PVC y estamos finalizando las conexiones en cada campo. Una vez que todo esté listo, usaremos riego por goteo con temporizadores para optimizar el uso del agua. Ahorrar agua con el calor de Texas es clave, y este sistema nos ayuda a que las plantas reciban la cantidad justa donde más la necesitan: en sus raíces.
