FOSTER HOME URGENTLY NEEDED-

We would like to be able to save little Daphnie but really need to secure a foster home, first.
We don't know much about her, but she was found in Katy running around on very busy streets. A Good Samaritan took her in and is hoping to turn her over to the rescue.

A few details: She's older but still quite playful Loves to play with balls and fetch. She's house trained Very sweet and did great getting a bath and light grooming Seems very smart and understands a few commands

Can anyone step up to allow us to help this girl because she really needs our assistance!
Please let us know if you can help with providing a foster home for her.

Please complete an application if interested at cockerkids.org

Today is National Rescue Dog Day, and if you’ve ever loved a rescue, you already know: they rescue us right back.

Every Cocker Spaniel who comes through our doors has a story. Some were dumped. Some were neglected. Some were loved once, then forgotten.

But no matter where they came from, they all deserve the same thing: A soft place to land. A warm heart to trust. A chance at the life every dog should have.

That’s what we fight for. We believe in second chances, in healing, hope, and happy endings. Rescue is never easy. But it’s always worth it.

Today we honor every spaniel who has crossed our path, and the people who made their second chance possible.
To our fosters, adopters, transporters, donors, and volunteers: thank you for standing beside us and giving these dogs the love they’ve always deserved.

We desperately need fosters.

We’re getting calls every day. Shelter dogs. Strays. Owner surrenders. All of them with nowhere to go.

We want to help. We try to help. But without foster homes, our hands are tied.

A foster home is the difference between life and death. Between being forgotten and being loved. We’ll cover the vet care. You give them safety. Comfort. A chance.

It doesn’t have to be forever. Just long enough to save their life.

Please, be the reason we can say yes.

***Cargo has found himself a great family to give him a safe place to land. ****

Cargo is just as handsome as he can be, but is desperately looking for a local foster home to rest his head. He’s the sweetest dog and just wants to be loved. Cargo is 3yo and weighs about 25lbs. He is house trained, knows a few commands, loves playing with a ball, great with other dogs and walks well on a leash. He’s such a great pup 💙
Can you help him with a safe home to thrive, while we look for his forever family. Any interested applicant for fostering, will need to be in the Houston vacinity and able to help with vet visits, if needed.
Please complete an application on our website to be considered.

Our Story

In 1988 Sharon Elliott, a Cocker Spaniel enthusiast, was called on to assist in a raid of a backyard breeder. Sharon, horrified by what she saw, became determined to assist Cocker Spaniels who were abandoned and helpless.

The operation started small with two volunteers placing a dozen dogs a year. Within ten years this noble effort attracted a core of volunteers who re-homed a hundred plus dogs a year. In the late 1990's Cocker Spaniel Rescue established an internet presence with a website, www.cockerkids.org. While the website helped recruit volunteers and donations, the number of Cocker Spaniels in need increased dramatically. Now we have a presence on FaceBook and we are reaching even more Cocker Spaniel lovers.

Today CSR serves the greater Houston area with foster homes stretching from Conroe south to Lake Jackson, west to Katy and as far east to Deer Park. Our primary service area is around 5,600 square miles with a population of 5.7 million people. We serve an area bigger than three individual states (Rhode Island, Connecticut, and Delaware). Thirty states that have populations smaller than the greater Houston area. In 2009 we were contacted about 633 Cocker Spaniels in need of help and we adopted out an all-time high of 300. In 2009, we were awarded the Pedigree Breed Rescue of the Year at the Westminster Dog Show.

Dedicated volunteers are the heart of Cocker Spaniel Rescue of East Texas. Currently we have about 50 volunteers and 30 foster homes. We are an all volunteer organization (no paid employees) and do not operate a facility. We refer to the Cocker Inn® as a virtual home, representing our network of foster homes and boarding kennels. About 80% of the dogs are in foster homes. The remaining 20% are boarded at several kennels across the greater Houston area. We would love to have foster homes for all the dogs but being boarded in a kennel is better than being on death row. We extend our thanks to those of you who "volunteer" money. Your donations enable us to provide veterinary care and board dogs when foster homes can't be found.
