Pet owners in Greater Houston — are timing hiccups slowing your dog’s progress? We’ve seen three common mistakes and quick fixes to get you back on track! 🐾

1) Late rewards: If treats arrive after the behavior ends, your dog won’t link action to reward. Fix: reward within 1 second. Practice prompt: ask for a sit and reward immediately — five quick reps.

2) Inconsistent cues: Different words or gestures confuse dogs. Fix: pick one cue and stick with it. Practice prompt: run three short sessions using only that cue, same tone each time.

3) Over-reliance on treats: Dogs perform for food, not the cue. Fix: fade treats with variable rewards and praise. Practice prompt: reward every other correct response, then surprise with a jackpot.
