💛 Meet November's Pet of the Month: MINNIE 💛

✨ All about Minnie ✨
Age: 11 years old
Breed: officially unknown but 100% a good doggo!
Favorite toy: a hilarious dollar store duck/turkey thing
Favorite food: her "nummies" aka wet dog food 😆
Favorite human: ...to play with - her Dad...otherwise it's her mom
Favorite place: anywhere her pawrents are. She does love Lake Superior though!

"Minnie was adopted in January of 2016 when she was just 6 months old! We are convinced she is a big dog in a small dog body. The first day we brought her home she jumped over the back of our 4 foot tall love seat! She has slowed down a little since then but she is still a very high energy dog with a larger than life personality. She absolutely loves playing with any toy that squeaks but she especially goes bonkers for toys that are larger than her. She will play fetch for hours inside but as soon as you go outside she could care less. Minnie definitely is a little hunter - fortunately she has yet to actually catch anything but she is constantly sniffing and searching for critters. She cannot contain her excitement when she hears any of these words..."outside", "walk", "nummies", "treat", "play", "Tobi" or "Rocky".

Minnie is truly amazing. She makes us laugh and smile everyday. She is such a fun, loving, spunky and playful dog. She just loves to be with us, wherever that is. And we equally love to be with her.

Caring Animal Hospital has always been so loving, gentle and kind with Minnie. Due to some health issues she had early on as well as a dog attack that landed her at the vet, she is very nervous going there. But they always meet her where she is at. CAH has very knowledgeable staff who always answer alllll my questions and calls. We are so grateful for CAH and all the staff there!"

We love having Minnie as a patient, thank you to her humans for choosing CAH to care for her! 🐾

🐾 PET OF THE MONTH PROMPT FOR NOVEMBER 🐾

The ball was dropped this week so this will be a quick contest! Fall weather is the perfect backdrop for a nap! Comment a picture of your pet snoozing 😴

1. The pet has to be an established patient of our clinic. (Established = yearly patient/doctor relationship)
2. Only 1 comment/picture can be posted per prompt, per pet.
3. There won't be repeats, so once your pet is POTM that's it!

Finishing up this we're celebrating Olivia! 🐾

Olivia started with CAH in June 2026. She passed her VTNE in June as well, and we are so proud of her for this accomplishment! Her favorite part of work is all the new puppy and kitten visits. She loves Australian Shepherds, having one of her own. When not at work, you'll find Olivia out riding her horse Elliot! Anything to do with horses, count her in. Her favorite medical term: borborygmi, which is used to describe the rumbling, growling or gurgling sounds made by the intestine.

We appreciate everything that Olivia does for the clinic and we are so lucky to have her! 🩵

Today we're celebrating Emily for ! 🐾

Emily has been with CAH for 1.5 years. She loves to work on abscesses and cuterebra (bot fly) larvae extractions! Her favorite animals we see here at the clinic are ducks. When not at work, she enjoys fishing and spending time with family and friends, especially outdoors. You'll occasionally see her Golden Retriever, Rex, behind the reception counter and yes - you may pet him, he actually demands it! Her favorite medical term: cystorelin, which is a medication used to treat ovarian follicular cysts in dairy cattle.

We appreciate everything that Emily does for the clinic and we are so lucky to have her! 💜

Continuing , we're celebrating Kami! 🐾

Kami started with CAH in 2024 as our practice manager and recently passed the VTNE to become an LVT, too! Her favorite things to do are blood draws and IV catheter placements. She has a special place in her heart for all spicy cats, and if you've met her cat Platypus you know why. When not at work, Kami loves to be outside and is an avid hiker! She's also a new mom, having just welcomed a baby girl in July. Her favorite medical term: purulent, which means containing, consisting of, or being pus.

We appreciate everything that Kami does for the clinic and we are so lucky to have her! 💚

Next on we're celebrating Paige! 🐾

Paige has been with CAH for 10 years! Her favorite thing to do is anything that involves looking under the microscope. She states she doesn't have a favorite type of animal we see, she mainly goes off of the animals vibes. The biggest vibe she receives is from Freddie the ferret. When off the clock, Paige is mom to two girls and loves to go thrifting! Her favorite medical term: pedunculated, which describes a growth or lesion that is attached to the body by a narrow stalk or stem.

We appreciate everything that Paige does for the clinic, and we are so lucky to have her! 💜

We're kicking off by celebrating our lead technician, Casey! 🐾

Casey has been with CAH since 2020. She loves to do any type of procedure she gets to scrub into, and is our resident dental queen! Her favorite type of animal we see are any Rottweilers and Labradors. When not at work, Casey is mom to two boys who keep her plenty busy. She enjoys the outdoors and going up north where the boys insist on quad rides every day. Her favorite medical term: phenylpropanolamine, which is apart of the generic drug name for Proin.

We appreciate everything that Casey does for the clinic, and we are so lucky to have her! 💙

We're partnering with Purina for the month of October to help send supplies (both human and pet) to pet-friendly domestic violence shelters in our local area! Purina's Purple Leash Project partners with Red Rover to work on growing the number of pet friendly domestic violence shelters across the country through donations, safe-housing grants and volunteer hours. As many as 48% of Survivors will delay leaving because they can't take their pet with them.

Donation box is in our lobby and you can stop by any time we're open to drop off any items on the donation list! 💜🐾

🧡 Meet October's Pet of the Month: GRIZZLY 🧡

Hi, I'm Grizzly! I'm a 6 year old chocolate lab and I weigh only 97lbs - perfect lap dog size! I love doggy ice cream AND peanut butter. 🍦 My favorite toy is my Jolly ball, and my absolute favorite place to be is wherever my mom is!

My parents rescued me and so far I've been learning a lot of new things. I didn't know how to swim 2 years ago, but now I'm a pro and love the water and boat rides! 🌊🚤 I get really excited when I see other dogs, and I know I may look intimidating but I really just want to play!

I love Caring Animal Hospital and all the attention I get when I visit! Dr. Cotter gives the best snuggles and belly rubs. My secret hack is that I'm always a good boy, but if I act a little wiggly I can get EXTRA snuggles and belly rubs. Fools them every time!

We love having Grizzly as a patient, thank you to his humans for choosing CAH to care for him! 🐾

🌟 Dr. Amanda’s Small Animal Highlight of October 🌟

Litter Box Changes? Don't Ignore Them! 🐱🚽

Zombies, witches, and ghosts have nothing on a blocked cat! 🐈‍⬛🎃 This month we will be focusing on your cats urinary health.

If your cat suddenly starts peeing outside the litter box, making frequent trips, straining, or producing only small amounts of urine, something is wrong. These are common signs of FLUTD (Feline Lower Urinary Tract Disease), which can include FIC (Feline Idiopathic Cystitis), urinary stones, UTI (urinary tract infections), urinary obstruction, and more.

🚩 Watch for 🚩
* Frequent trips to the litter box
* Straining or crying while urinating
* Small amounts of urine
* Blood in the urine
* Excessive licking of the ge***al area
* Urinating outside the box
* Suddenly avoiding the litter box

🩺 How do we find out what's going on?

Your veterinarian may recommend a physical exam and urinalysis initially. Depending on the findings, additional diagnostics may include urine culture, bloodwork, x-rays, and/or ultrasound to look for infection, stones, kidney disease, or other causes. Medical problems should be ruled out before assuming a litter box issue is purely behavioral.

🏠 But sometimes it is behavioral!

Cats may avoid their litter box because of:
* A dirty box
* A new type or scented litter
* A box that's too small or difficult to enter
* An undesirable location
* Conflict with another pet
* Changes in the household or routine
* Stress or anxiety
* A preference for another surface or location
* Urine marking/spraying

🚨 IMPORTANT: If your cat is repeatedly straining to urinate and producing little or NO urine, this may be a urinary obstruction and is an emergency. Male cats are particularly at risk. Seek veterinary care immediately as this condition is life-threatening. 🚨

Your cat isn't being spiteful or "bad." A change in litter box habits is communication! Bring your feline in for an examination to determine what they are saying and help them feel better moving forward, call Caring Animal Hospital at 517-694-6766 to schedule your next appointment. 💙
