Betty Davis is a bad ass hen. Here she soaks, proud, gorgeous, sick, and scared—but looking fabulous.

At 5 1/2 years old Bette has rarely been ill. This is only the second time I’ve had her in the house for any real medical issue. I was very close to losing Bette this week and as many know—who’ve faced or experienced losing the final member of their original flock—a lot of emotions will rise.

Let’s just say, I’ve been a mess. Scroll to the final frame to see what’s been ailing Bett. We are cautiously optimistic now that she’s on antibiotics and resting comfortably and eating that she’s going to make it through this one. You can hear the relief in my voice 😮‍💨

Meet Snoop the Kitty. He is a two-month old rescue from the shelter. It’s kitten season ya’ll and there are so many babies in need. Help if you can.

Snoop is helping us A LOT. While he is driving me a bit bananas with his “non-stop kitty energy,” he is helping Cooper get a good night’s sleep after the loss off our Dexter. Poor guy was riddled with Cancer and we had to do the right thing and let him go. But—Snoop to the rescue!

Bette Davis is going strong at age 5. My last OG flock member is still leader of the pack and mean as hell—to everyone (mostly her flock mates) but not to me! I love her feathers. They are always perfect. It’s always like she’s dressed in a tux or perfectly tailored suit. Anybody else get that feeling about some of their perfectly feathered babies?

Speaking of perfectly feathered—hers are not at the moment. She’s only come inside once in her life for care, but I’m about to have her in for a butt bath, because things aren’t looking good back there.

Dexter has not been well. Unfortunately, today we found out he has a mass in his mouth that is likely cancerous and some bumps in his abdomen near one of his kidneys. It’s a bummer but it’s been a bigger bummer watching him decline so quickly, and not living his best cat life. Is having a few tests that aren’t going to break the bank thankfully that will give us some more information, frankly there may be nothing we can do and even if we could, it’s going to be exorbitantly expensive.

I absolutely love our veterinarian Peachtree Dt. Thorndyke. She’s the most gentle and honest vet. I always know my fur babies are in excellent hands.

If you’re not aware of the Dexter story, check out my stories later today am going to put together a little montage of how Dexter came into my life and a really tough time in my life. I was finally not too busy to look up and see him— really see him. He had probably been wandering through my yard for ages, scrambling here and there scaring the s**t out of me at night! Showing up creepy in my windows— begging me to see him, yet, not sure if he could trust me. Here we are six or seven years later then he is a part of our family.
