Hey gang, thank you for your patience! I am in the process of making some updates and wanted to provide you with a little background on me, and where we are going to take the K9NOZ brand in the upcoming years!

First, I am honored and humbled by the opportunity that I was given to work with Bud as he transitioned out of the business and I’m really excited to work with all of you! For those of you that know him, this will come as no surprise, but he is one of the most patient and talented teachers that I have ever worked with. I could have never asked for a better man to teach me this trade.

As for me, I am a super private individual because of my career choice but also because I spend a great deal of my time fighting bad guys. That said, I was born and raised in the United States, but I have traveled and lived in hotels all over the world with my crazy career. I began working SAR K9s about twenty-five years ago, and I have a passion for Police, Military, Search & Rescue and Hunting canines that spans my entire life.

Call it luck or fate, I have always tended to have the absolute naughtiest of working dogs under my feet, be it a Lab, Shepherd or a really gnarly Mal, I was generally the fella who’s K9 shredded the kennel, at the truck, got covered in mud and jumped in my buddies cars, or chewed up something really, really special that belonged to one of my children. As such, I have come to appreciate hard work, great quality training and even higher quality K9 gear.

I am patient, principled and committed to getting this business right. My first K9NOZ leash was purchased 15 years ago, and I still have it in my backpack looking as good as the day I bought it. I am proud of this brand, and I will do my absolute best to not only uphold the heritage and quality of K9NOZ, but also to take us forward into new products and capabilities.

Thanks for being a friend, and please do not hesitate to reach out if you need something. The website remains up and operational, and I will be updating it in the coming months with some new goodies and a new look. Good hunting!

A New Chapter.
Sometimes, a person is known by the quality of decisions that he makes. 10 years ago, I retired from my day job. It was one of the best decisions of my life!
About three years ago, I retired from SAR. That too, was a good decision. I never want my team to need to divert resources to take care of me. I am at an age where I’m finding it difficult to successfully continue to do all the things that I want and need to do. In light of this, I have decided to step back from my business and retire…Again.
Today I retired from making leashes and collars and I think this will be another good decision. I will quit while my quality and abilities are still great and use this time to transition to another owner who can continue to serve you with the same passion.
K9NOZ.com will continue, but without me. I am very happy to say that I have found a new owner who shares my passion and will continue to put quality and service as the hallmark of the brand. All of my equipment and inventory and as much of my expertise as I can transfer has gone to the team at DeployK9. I will remain in a consulting and instructional capacity for as long as needed, but effective immediately, I am now officially retired!
My personal email is and will remain [email protected], but I will wean off as the primary point of contact for the business. I do not expect things to stay the same. I expect that things will improve and that the new team will make a better product and provide even better service.
Please keep in touch, thank you for being our customers, and for giving me the opportunity to serve you. Each retirement event has been stressful for me, and this one is no different. I do know that this is the correct decision. I would like to tell each and every one of you how much you mean to me, but it would be too painful, and it would take much too long.
What I do regret is that with each retirement, my circle of friends gets a bit smaller. I will not have the number and intensity of interactions that I want with the people that I know and love. This is all a part of the aging process. I hope that you will continue to stay in touch and share your successes, your failures, your lives.
I hope that I have been of some small service to you and that I have made things in your lives a little better. I know that you have done so for me.

Best regards,
Bud Rogers

Is Now Live!!

Personally, I think it is fabulous! A huge debt of gratitude goes out to Julia@jelly graphics for her beautiful work on my website.

For those folks who know what they want, and for those folks who are ready to order, this makes the process quick, easy, and relatively painless. I now take credit cards because I have given up on taking Nubian goats and firstborn children. The postage there was absolutely killing me.

Of course, if you have questions or if you have items that you want made that do not appear on my website, I am still available by phone and by email.

If you were one of the people who sent me photos or testimonials, check out the website. You will may find it there.

You will notice that there are products, clips, colors, and sizes that did not appear on my original website. The original website was very old and out of date. Hopefully, this one will stay updated regularly.

Please check out the website, and if you see anything that is confusing, wrong, or could be done better, please send me an email or comment below. If you have suggestions please let me know. Many of the best ideas I have implemented came directly from my clients. As my mother once said, "two heads are better than one". As someone else once said "sometimes it takes a village".

Stay safe out there, and give the dog a scratch behind the ear for me.

Inspect your Gear
While we are on the topic of clips, would like to take this opportunity to remind all of you to inspect your equipment with some frequency. It does eventually wear out. Over the years I have received some equipment back for evaluation and repair. Occasionally I received something that has severe wear. Often, it is less expensive to replace the clip than to replace the line.

It is not just the hardware that you have issues. Over the years I have seen biothane that has been chewed, cut, and on rare occasions abraded. This can affect the strength of your line. You have a question, send me a picture of your line and I will give you my opinion.

I am always eager to know how and why my products wear. I use all of my products, and where ever I can, I improve them. I find that my clients are my best source of suggestions for how this may be accomplished. I value your knowledge your experience.
If you have issues with a product, I want to know about it. I need to know the where, when, why, and any other information that you may have so that I can continue to improve what I make and sell.

LOCKJAW CLIPS ARE BACK!!!
For some years now, I have been saying that the original manufacturer of lockjaw clips and told me that this was a dead product. Either I was misinformed, I misunderstood, or something else.
At any rate, I was wrong.
I now have a source of the original Lockjaw clips, from the original manufacturer in Italy, with the original alloy. I received 14 of these for evaluation and, I am happy to say that I will be offering these as an option on your leashes effective immediately.

My previous supplier indicated that he was facing a major price increase but had decided not to have the product made for him anymore. With my current supplier, I will not have to increase prices at all. I was charging eight dollars to put one on your leash or long line and it looks like at least for the present, I will be able to maintain that price.

I received a small shipment late last week, and I expect a larger shipment in about two weeks.

09/14/2019

In a few weeks, I will be attending The CSAR conference in Tennessee. If you will be there, and if you would like to place an order for leashes, let me know as soon as possible, and I will get your order made and deliver it to you at CSAR. That way, you save the cost of the shipping.

I'm looking forward to seeing old friends and making new friends there.

Friday November 2, 2018
I very rarely post to Facebook. But I feel that this is a very good time for me to do so.

Over the last three months, I have not been feeling well. Numerous trips to the doctor did not serve to improve things. Finally, My GP sent me to a surgeon to have more testing done on my gallbladder. The surgeon said that based on excluding the other things that could be causing my problems, the most likely culprit was my gallbladder.

It (my gallbladder), was removed on last Monday. I am recovering very nicely and I believe that this procedure has taken care off most if not all of my issues.

Unfortunately for the last three months, I have not been able to devote enough time and attention to my SAR team, my family, my friends, my business, and my dog. with luck, this Is changing now.

Thank you, one and all for seeing me through this.

Lockjaw clips

One of the most popular clips that I have used, and my preferred clip, has been the lockjaw clip. It costs me about $7 and change so I charge $8 to put it on your line. It locks and so cannot accidentally be taken off your dog by casual bystanders or from play between dogs or anything like that.

Early on, we had a few problems with the clip slipping off of the ring on the collar, even when locked. I determined that it was a quality control issue in the manufacturing of the clip, so I instituted a quality control test for the clip and asked that the supplier to subject the clips that he sent me to the quality control test. He determined that less than 40% of the clips that he had in stock would pass my quality control test. He tested and shipped me all of the lockjaw clips that he had in stock that met my requirements. At that point, I was told that the next order of lockjaw clips would cost between 20 and $25 each (my cost), if he could get anymore at all. This is rather exorbitant, and certainly is not practical for this clip.

I managed to contact the company that supplies my supplier. That is to say, I contacted the manufacturer of the clip. We negotiated back-and-forth and they managed to find about 25 clips of old stock that meet my specifications. It is such an expensive clip that they do not have any plans to make more.

The upshot of this is that I have in my possession about 25 "Good" clips. These are all that I ever expect to have. When they are gone they are gone forever. I am happy to put these on your leashes or long lines for $8 per lockjaw clip.

I have also been investigating a replacement for these clips. The best potential replacement that I have found is something called a "Kong frog". This clip is not designed to work with dogs. It is designed to work for rock climbers and such. The lockjaw clip has a working weight limit of approximately 300 pounds. A 5/8 inch line has an estimated breaking strength at something over 600 pounds. The Kong frog clip weighs the same as a lockjaw clip, but is rated at about 5000 pounds. While it does not lock as the lockjaw clip does, it is designed not to be able to be opened accidentally. That is to say, you must press both of the tabs at the same time in order to get the clip to open. If you would like to try one of these clips on your next leash, tell me. I will put it on your line at my cost ($15 for the clip). If you are dissatisfied, you may send it back to me and I will put your choice of clip on the line at no additional charge.
