This was Sue Ponde touching the lives of many (March 2021). Recall "Bentley"? He was a walking case of pure misery. Besides never being socialized (had to be trapped), he had severe Demodectic mange (red mange) along with gazillion fleas crawling all over him. If anyone could bring a dog out of "fear”, it’s was Sue Ponde! RIP Sue 🙏 Your legacy continues ♥️

The volunteers at Paw Pals can’t stop gushing about Harlee—and trust us, once you meet her, you’ll understand why! This little four-month-old firecracker is the perfect mix of sweet and sassy. With her dazzling green eyes and striking Torti coat, she’s got looks and attitude!

Harlee starts off a little reserved, but once she’s comfortable, her playful, feisty side takes center stage. She’s a curious, energetic girl who loves to pounce, explore, and keep you entertained with her antics! She enjoys the company of friendly, respectful cats and would love a buddy who understands her need for space (and the occasional dramatic flair).

She hasn’t met kids or dogs yet, so a quieter home might be the best place for her to build confidence and let her personality shine. Like most Torties, Harlee knows what she wants and isn’t afraid to show it—but that’s what makes her such a gem!

Our 2 wonderful volunteers, Chef Barb and Chef Kristen, stuff the Kongs with their famous mouth watering treat recipe! The dogs love these special treats and it helps pass those boring hours in the kennel. Chewy has a special this week and it is Buy 3 and get one free! If you are considering a gift to Paw Pals, this would be a great time to order Kongs!! We prefer the medium and Large sizes!

Tomorrow, March 4 from 10 am till 12 noon, TCAP will be at Paw Pals (1500 South Abbott Ave, Hillsboro). Vaccinations and heartworm testing and other preventive services are done as walk ins with no appointment needed.
Flea medications are also available for purchase.

New surgical table for TCAP’s low-cost spay/neuter surgeries is ready. This equipment was purchased from an award ($3,350) given by
HILCO Electric Operation Round Up Program. TCAP (texasforthem.org) offers low-cost pet sterilization surgeries and vaccinations on the first Tuesday of each month at Paw Pals. Thank you HILCO for your continued support. Thank you Debbie Ford for working the grant application♥️

“Human goodness exists” by “Mandy”…
I’m now in heaven but please allow me to reflect on the many earthly humans that touched my once “discarded-life”. When I was abandoned, I ran towards a car thinking it was my family (never believing that my humans could be so cruel and unloving) and in the blink of an eye…SLAM, I was rolling beneath an unbraking car. For days, with great pain, I dragged my skinned and bloody hind legs becuse of paralysis due to my broken back. People would gawk and recite “poor dog” until a Good Samaritan saw my plight and helped me. I was then taken to the volunteers at Paw Pals. My initial vet visit suggested euthanasia because of my condition and remaining life’s care requirements. When I returned to Paw Pals after this evaluation, a commitment was made primarily by Sue Ponde for my daily care. Other volunteers joined...notably Warren Smith who designed my scoot-chair. Then came Carol & Mike Stine who fell in love with me at first sight. With the Stine’s, I lived like a queen. I owe my life to all who provided me with this life-opportunity. Thank you for supporting Paw Pals—with these volunteers and family, I was given a loving final years of my life! Love “Mandy”

Our tribute to Sue Ponde (passed away at home February 7, 2025). Sue, in many ways, set an example for many through her actions. She devoted much of her life towards the welfare of animals—particularly, helping dogs. Her premise was simple but heartfelt. Sue believed no dog was unworthy. In other words, all dogs deserved effort, attention and repect from humans. As with all “rescuers” most of her actions were unsung. Sue helped dogs that were the toughest to place: ones with serious medical issues, paralyzed dogs, deaf & blind, emaciated and with neurological deficits. Bottom-line, Sue never met a dog that was unworthy. God bless you Sue for your work on earth. We know you are now surrounded by all you have touched ♥️

Handsome Jake is a favorite of the Paw Pals volunteers! Jake is loved by many but still would be so happy to have a home of his own. Jake is a pretty chill kind of guy. He loves going for long walks and is also pretty content to just hang out for the day on a comfy bed. Jake is a healthy 4-5 year old shepherd mix. He is neutered and fully vaccinated, and has a microchip!!
