EMERGENCY SPOTLIGHT: Lacey Jane

"We have a 15-(soon-to-be-16)-year-old Bichon who has rarely been ill over the course of her life. Recently, she began with symptoms that to us, signaled the end of the road. We rushed her to Partner. This was our very first experience with Emergency visits. From the moment we walked in the door, all the way thru to receiving our diagnosis (thankfully not the end-of-life issue that we thought it was) and discharging, we couldn't have been more pleased, comforted, and reassured. Every single employee that we encountered was polite, caring, and compassionate. We know we don't have a lot of time left with Lacey, but are thankful to know that she still has quality of life and should we need help, Partner Vet will be there. “I cannot say enough incredible things about Partner Vet, Dr. Barnes and Dr. Pierre quite literally saved my dog Albert’s life, and I will be forever grateful.

As pet parents, we never hope to need emergency or critical care, but when you do, you want a team like this ready and waiting. Partner Vet was exactly that for us. Dr. Barnes, the surgeon (James River Veterinary Surgery, inside building), is extraordinary. Facing surgery was one of the most frightening experiences I’ve had as a pet owner, but Dr. Barnes’ skill, confidence, and clear communication gave me trust and peace when I needed it most. Knowing Albert was in those hands made all the difference.

Dr. Charlebois, who managed Albert’s critical care right after, was equally amazing. The level of attentiveness, compassion, and dedication shown during Albert’s recovery was beyond anything I could have hoped for. I always felt like Albert was being closely watched, truly cared for, and treated like he mattered.

What truly sets Partner Veterinary apart is their level of care and coverage; they have a critical care veterinarian on-site every hour, supported by a team of amazing technicians and staff. That constant, expert oversight gave me immense comfort during such a stressful time.

Did You Know that dogs and cats can donate blood too? Just like humans, veterinary patients contribute to animal blood banks!

Dr. Pierre Charlebois, one of Partner's Board Certified Critical-Care Veterinarians, explains ...

"Indeed, dogs and cats suffer numerous conditions that require blood transfusion, from things like trauma to auto-immune diseases, to surgeries and clotting disorders. Unfortunately, our veterinary world does not have as robust of a blood banking system as we do in humans, and this often leaves us in shortages of life saving blood for some patients.

For that reason, Partner's Richmond hospital has created its own blood banking program (NOVA) to help meet the increasing demand for our patients. Our blood donors go through rigorous health screening and only donate when completely healthy. These donors are veterinary heroes!"
