⚠️ Rabies Alert for Our Community ⚠️

We want to make our community aware that a fox in our area has tested positive for rabies.

Recently, a fox entered the yard of one of our clients and attacked their dog. The fox was brought to Georgetown Animal Clinic after it was deceased and was submitted for rabies testing. The test results confirmed that the fox was positive for rabies.

Thankfully, the dog was current on its rabies vaccination, which is one of the best protections against this deadly disease, and no family members were seriously injured during the incident.

This serves as an important reminder to:
🐾 Keep your pets up to date on their rabies vaccinations (required by law in South Carolina).
🐾 Supervise pets when they are outdoors and keep them on a leash or in a secure fenced area whenever possible.
🐾 Never approach or handle wild animals, especially if they appear sick, unusually friendly, disoriented, or aggressive.
🐾 If your pet has contact with a wild animal, or if you or a family member is bitten or scratched, seek veterinary or medical care immediately and contact local animal control or public health officials.

Rabies is almost always fatal once symptoms develop, but it is preventable through vaccination and prompt medical or veterinary care after a potential exposure.
