We may be a wildlife rescue, but lately we've found ourselves caring for a few little lives of the feline variety! 🐱❤️

As a small nonprofit, we operate on a pretty limited budget, and kitten supplies aren't something we typically have stocked since our focus is wildlife rehabilitation. But when these little ones needed help, we just couldn't turn our backs on them.

We've put together an Amazon Wish List with some of the things we need to keep these babies comfortable, happy, and on the road to recovery.

If anyone feels inclined to send a little something their way, we would be incredibly grateful! Every donation, big or small, helps take a little of the financial burden off our rescue and allows us to continue helping the animals who depend on us.

After everything these babies have been through, it feels so good to have some positive things to share!

Our little tortie, who we discovered had suffered a traumatic tail injury along with fractures to her sacrum, is peeing and pooping normally! That may not sound like a big deal, but considering the location and severity of her injuries, it’s a pretty big little miracle. We were so worried about possible neurological damage, so seeing those functions working as they should has been an enormous relief.

Our little calico girl is also making wonderful progress! She’s gained 0.2 pounds, which is a big accomplishment for such an emaciated little baby. She’s also becoming incredibly sweet and affectionate, and it’s been so heartwarming watching her slowly learn that people aren’t something she needs to fear.

Both girls have wonderful appetites, their diarrhea is finally starting to improve, and they’ve even started playing! Perhaps one of the sweetest changes is that they no longer immediately run and hide when they see us. They’re beginning to feel safe, and that means just as much to us as the physical progress they’re making.

They still have some healing to do, but little by little, we’re seeing two frightened, starving kittens turn into happy, playful babies who are finally getting the chance to just be kittens.

And after everything they’ve survived, that’s a pretty beautiful thing. ❤️

Thank you for cheering these girls on and caring about their second chance. We couldn’t do what we do without you. 🐾

Today was a rough one.

We say all the time that RobCo Wildlife Rescue is not a kitten rescue… and technically, we aren’t. But Kira came to us because she was found starving, covered in fleas and parasites, and trying to eat melted candy in the middle of a busy street. She was not a healthy kitten someone simply wanted to surrender — she was a little animal in trouble, and we couldn’t just leave her there. Since coming into our care, she has completely turned around and become a happy, healthy little girl who absolutely loves people and wants to be wherever you are. ❤️

Today, her FeLV screening test came back very faintly positive. We don’t know yet whether this will turn out to be a true positive, so she will need repeat testing. In the meantime, she needs to stay separated from other cats, and unfortunately, we do not have a place to continue isolating her.

So here we are… the wildlife rescue asking for help with a kitten. Because at the end of the day, we care about the little lives that cross our path, even when they aren’t technically “ours.”

We urgently need a temporary foster with no other cats while we wait for answers. RobCo Wildlife Rescue will continue to handle her follow-up veterinary care and testing. If you can give this sweet little shadow a safe place to land for now, please message us.

We really could use one good thing to come out of today. ❤️

We got some answers today about our two little crematorium girls… and we're still trying to process all of it.

First, the one piece of really good news: both girls tested negative for FIV and FeLV.

Honestly, considering how emaciated, parasite-ridden, and sickly these babies looked when they were found, that felt like a little miracle. We were so relieved to finally get some good news for them.

And then we learned the truth about our little tortie.

We thought she was a bobtail.... She isn’t.

At some point in her very short life, her tail was severed. And it wasn’t just her tail. Part of her sacrum is broken too.

This tiny kitten was somehow walking around, trying to survive, starving and terrified, while carrying an injury severe enough to break the bones at the base of her spine.

We keep looking at her and wondering what in the world happened to her. How long was she hurting? How did something this small survive it?

And how did she still have enough fight left in her to crawl into that crematorium looking for warmth?

She is safe now, but she is not completely out of the woods yet.

Because of where the fracture is, our biggest concern now is whether there is neurological damage. We have to watch very closely to make sure the nerves controlling her bladder, bowels, and other functions were not permanently affected.

So for now, we wait. We watch every little potty break. Every tiny sign that tells us her body is still doing what it is supposed to do.

This little girl has already survived starvation, parasites, fear, and an injury that no baby should ever have had to endure.

We may never know what happened to her before she found us, but we do know this:

Whatever happened before is over.

She is warm.
She is fed.
She is safe.
And from this point forward, she will know nothing but love.

Please keep both little girl in your thoughts. They still have some hurdles ahead of them, and they have fought far too hard to get here. ❤️

🐾 Sometimes, the little ones who need us most find their way to the most unexpected places. ❤️

Meet the two newest little faces at RobCo Wildlife Rescue!

These sweet girls somehow managed to find their way inside Happy Trails Pet Crematory, and we’re guessing they were desperately searching for somewhere warm and safe to hide.

Both are absolutely skin and bones, full of parasites, and were absolutely terrified. The little calico even has a chunk missing from one of her ears. We can only imagine what these babies have been through in their short lives.

Now, y’all know we’re a wildlife rescue, not a kitten rescue. But when two tiny, frightened babies need help, how in the world are we supposed to say no? 🥹

And here’s a fun little fact about our fluffy tortie! She’s actually a bobtail AND a polydactyl! A bobtail means she has an unusually short tail, and polydactyl means she was born with extra toes! So, she’s sporting a little extra toe-bean magic. 🐾💕 She’s quite the unique little lady!

For now, their days of simply trying to survive are behind them. They’re warm, safe, have full bellies, and are getting the care they so desperately need. We’re going to give them plenty of time to get healthy and learn that not every human is something to be afraid of.

Once they’re feeling better, both of these precious girls will be looking for their forever homes. Somewhere they’ll never have to search for warmth, wonder where their next meal is coming from, or be afraid again.

We may not be a kitten rescue, but sometimes rescue doesn’t care what species you specialize in. It just puts a little life in front of you that needs someone to say yes. ❤️

🐾 Some of these dogs have spent years waiting for a life they've never known.

We're reaching out to our wonderful community in hopes of helping some very deserving dogs find the homes they've been waiting for.

A shelter in Texas is preparing to close, and the dogs still in its care need somewhere to go. Some have been there for years. Not weeks. Not months. Years.

For some, life outside a kennel may be completely unfamiliar. The comfort of a couch, the quiet of a home, a soft bed beside someone who loves them… these are things many of us take for granted, but things some of these dogs may have never experienced.

And we want so badly for them to have that chance. ❤️

We also want to be realistic. These dogs aren't necessarily going to walk into a new home and immediately understand how to be someone's pet. Some may be frightened. Some may need help learning routines, building confidence, or simply understanding that they're finally safe.

They will need patience, understanding, and people willing to meet them where they are.

But imagine being the person who gets to show one of these dogs what life can be like beyond the walls of a shelter.

We're looking for adopters, experienced fosters, and reputable rescue organizations willing to help give these dogs a fresh start.

RobCo Wildlife Rescue primarily works with wildlife, but we believe every animal deserves a chance at a better life. We're simply hoping to use our little corner of the rescue community to help these dogs find theirs.

If you can help, or know someone who might, please reach out. And if you can't open your home, sharing their stories could be just as important.

They've spent enough of their lives waiting.

We haven’t posted much lately — but it definitely hasn’t been because things have been quiet around here. Quite the opposite. 🐿️💛

These two little squirrels are just one example of what’s been keeping us busy.

Their mama was hit by a car, and they went quite a while without her before help arrived. By the time they came to us, they were dehydrated, weak, and absolutely starving.

So we started slow — warmth first, then rehydration, then tiny amounts of formula once their bodies were ready for it. Thankfully, they were eager to eat and are already looking much more comfortable. 🐿️💛

One of these babies also came in with another problem we see fairly often in orphaned squirrels... a behavior called ge***al nursing. When babies are hungry, stressed, or have gone too long without mom, they may start "nursing" on a sibling’s ge***al area for comfort. It may look harmless at first, but it can become dangerous very quickly. Unfortunately, that repeated irritation may lead to severe swelling, raw tissue, scabbing, infection, and can even block the opening and prevent them from urinating. If not quickly addressed, this can lead to UTI's or a ruptured bladder.

So this is an important thing for finders to watch for: if you see baby squirrels nursing on each other’s ge***als, separate them immediately until they can get to a wildlife rehabilitator. Don’t wait for the area to become swollen or injured.

These two still have some catching up to do, but right now they’re warm, fed, resting, and getting the care they need.

Sometimes when our page gets a little quiet, it’s because the work behind the scenes hasn’t slowed down — answering messages, coordinating intakes, warming babies, mixing formula, treating injuries, and trying to give one more little life a fighting chance.

We may not always have time to post about every rescue as it happens, but the work never really stops.

Maple is tucked in warm and cozy tonight, completely unaware of the weather headed our way. 🐿️💛

With all the rain and storms ⛈️ about to come through, please take a few minutes afterward to check around your yard for displaced or exposed wildlife babies.

That means looking under trees and fallen limbs, but also checking low shrubs, brush piles, and ground nests. Heavy rain can flood or uncover nests that belong to cottontails and other ground-nesting wildlife, while strong winds can bring squirrel nests and branches down.

If you find a baby, keep them warm, in a dark and quiet place and contact a licensed wildlife rehabilitator right away.

Sometimes rescue starts with nothing more than someone noticing.

Maple was noticed. And tonight, that’s why she gets to sleep safe. 💛

This is one of those updates I’ve put off writing because some little lives just leave a much bigger hole behind than you ever expect.

JuneBug came to us after being hit by a car with significant head trauma. From the beginning, she was a fighter. She ate, she gained strength, she cared for her babies, and she gave us so many moments where we truly hoped her neurological injuries might continue to improve.

We gave her time. We gave her supportive care, medication, warmth, good food, and every opportunity we could to heal.

But despite all of that, her neurological deficits remained significant. There eventually came a point where continuing to ask her to keep fighting would have been for us, not for her.

So we made the hardest decision we make in rehabilitation.

We let her go peacefully.

She was safe. She was warm. She was loved. And she was held through the very end. 💜

Wildlife rehabilitation doesn’t always end with an open carrier door and an animal running back into the wild. Sometimes success means giving an animal comfort after trauma, giving them a chance they otherwise wouldn’t have had, and then having the courage to prevent suffering when their body simply cannot recover.

JuneBug’s story still has something beautiful in it. Her little DoodleBug grew from a tiny baby tucked beside his mama into a big, thriving youngster with a future ahead of him. A piece of her continues on through him, and somehow that makes losing her just a little easier to carry.

A very special thank you to Happy Trails Pet Crematory for caring for JuneBug on her final journey and for creating this beautiful keepsake for us. Having something tangible to remember these animals by means more than we can put into words.
