This handsome boy is Oreo, a 2-year-old male Catahoula mix with the sweetest eyes and a heart full of love. 💙🐶

Oreo is currently staying with us at HOPE Rescue Hearne Handfuls On Purpose Enterprize and is looking for a forever home where he can finally feel safe, loved, and part of the family. He’s a friendly, curious pup with a unique black-and-white coat and one striking blue eye that makes him impossible to forget!

HOPE Rescue needs your help.

This year, adoptions have slowed dramatically, and monetary donations have become fewer and farther between. While the need for rescue continues to grow, the resources needed to save lives are shrinking.

Every day, we provide food, shelter, veterinary care, spays/neuters, and a safe place for animals who have nowhere else to go. We have always fought to say “yes” when an animal needed help, but we are reaching a point where that may no longer be possible.

Without an increase in adoptions, fosters, and financial support, HOPE Rescue may be forced to close its doors.

This is not a post we ever wanted to make. Rescue is our passion, and every animal that comes through our doors matters to us. But the reality is that we cannot continue without the support of our community.

Important Alert for Pet Owners: Screwworm Prevention in Texas & Surrounding Areas

Hey fellow pet parents — with the New World screwworm situation active right now, I wanted to share practical advice straight from veterinary recommendations.

Your vet can help protect your dogs and cats using certain flea/tick preventatives that also kill screwworm larvae. These medications work after the larvae bite into the animal and ingest the drug (they are not full repellents that prevent the initial contact).

Recommended options include:

• NexGard (and NexGard Combo for cats)
• Credelio & Credelio Quattro
• Simparica Trio
• Bravecto (and other isoxazolines ending in “-laner”)
These are a key part of protection, but they’re most effective when combined with:
• Regular inspection of your pets (especially wounds, ears, nose, mouth, and other orifices)
• Prompt wound care
• Safe fly repellents where appropriate
• Keeping pets indoors or closely monitored during high-risk times
Screwworm larvae are aggressive and can enter any open wound or moist area, so vigilance matters. Some ranchers believe cases are being underreported, so it’s smart to stay proactive.

Please talk to your veterinarian before starting any medication. They can recommend the right product and dose for your pet’s species, age, weight, and health history (note: isoxazolines have rare neurologic side effect warnings in some dogs).

Stay informed through official sources like your state ag department or USDA/APHIS. Better safe than sorry — our pets are family!

🚨 Another Puppy Dumped. We Need Your Help. 🚨

💔 Over the weekend, this sweet puppy was dumped at HOPE. While we are grateful to be able to provide safety and care, situations like this put an enormous strain on our resources.
