PSA: NO DRAFT HORSES WILL BE TAKEN ON AT THIS TIME.
Welcome to Kraus Farrier Services! I am glad you are considering me as your next farrier. There’s a few points I’d like to bring up before deciding whether or not to take you on as a client.
First of all I am a full time farrier based out of Hays, Kansas. I attended Oklahoma Horseshoeing School in 2022. I came home and began apprenticing with multiple journeyman and certified farriers in my area. In 2025 I decided to attend Five Star Horseshoeing School to better my skills and my business practices. I finished their 6 month course and returned home and started shoeing horses full time. I continue my education by attending clinics and contests throughout the year as well.

Just because your last farrier was cheap doesn’t mean I need to be. This job is my livelihood, and should be treated as such.
MILEAGE
Mileage will be added based on your distance away from Hays.
SCHEDULING
I like to keep everything a 6-8 week schedule. This allows me to continually give you consistent results and keep you and your horses happy. I currently use a farrier app and this allows me to stay ahead of scheduling and let me know when to notify you about your next appointment. Ideal customers stay on a 6-8 week schedule but I can work with you if you think they could go a little longer.
Customers that are closer to me have a little more leeway in regards to by changing up schedule. If I am traveling over an hour away to work on horses I usually try get everyone in that area done in one go to avoid making multiple trips.
IF YOU ARE OVER AN HOUR AWAY AND YOU TELL ME THAT YOUR HORSES DO NOT NEED TRIMMED/SHOD, I WILL GET THEM DONE THE NEXT TIME I AM IN THE AREA. NO SPECIAL ONE STOP/ONE HORSE TRIPS WILL BE MADE UNLESS IT WORKS FOR MY SCHEDULE OR THERE IS AN EMERGENCY.
Evenings and weekends are reserved for my family. If I offer an evening/weekend appointment, do not expect me to offer it to you every time, it just happens to be what worked for my schedule at that time.
PAYMENT
I accept payment by cash, check, Venmo or Cashapp. Payment is due upon time of service unless a prior arrangement has been made. Services will cease if payment is not received.
WORKING CONDITIONS
I can work just about anywhere as long as I have light, shade and somewhere flat and dry for me to work on. Barns and lean-tos are not required but greatly appreciated.
EXPECTATIONS OF CUSTOMERS
My job is to trim or shoe your horse to the best of my ability while keeping myself and your horse safe. This can be tough if your horse does not behave. I can understand if a horse has trouble standing due to being young, having health conditions, or old age. This does not bother me. Kicking, biting, or anything that may result in an injury to myself will not be tolerated. Your horses behavior is not my responsibility or problem. My tools are all VERY sharp, and if your horse does not stand well, they could put themselves and myself in harms way. If I get hurt all you would have to do is find another farrier. I would have to call all of my customers and tell them to find someone else, I’d lose my main source of income which would prevent me from paying my bills, and in the worst case I wouldn’t be able to be a farrier anymore. I reserve the right to end service if I think the situation is too dangerous. Customers will be given 3 cycles to make changes or provide safe avenues to provide their horses with proper hoof care ( working with their feet, calling the vet to sedate ETC). If nothing changes or gets better, we will part ways.
JUST BECAUSE YOU CAN PICK UP YOUR ANIMALS FOOT WITH ONE HAND FOR 10 SECONDS DOES NOT MEAN THEY CAN STAND FOR THE FARRIER
IF YOUR HORSE HAS PROBLEMS STANDING DUE TO BAD BEHAVIOR AND YOU THINK THAT ME PICKING HIS FEET UP ONCE EVERY 6 WEEKS IS ALL THE WORK HE NEEDS, YOU ARE WRONG. PICKING FEET UP CONSISTENTLY IS THE ONLY WAY ANYTHING WILL CHANGE.
SAFETY IS A PRIORITY FOR BOTH ME AND YOUR HORSE. IF YOU DO NOT FEEL SAFE GETTING NEAR YOUR HORSE AND PICKING ITS FEET UP NEITHER WILL I.
If you cannot be there when I am, having horses caught up in a pen where I can catch them is very much appreciated.
IF YOU HAVE A HORSE THAT CANNOT BE CAUGHT, IT NEEDS TO BE IN AN AREA WHERE I CAN CATCH IT IF YOY ARE BOT GOING TO BE THERE. IF I CANT CATCH YOUE HORSE, IT WILL NOT BE DONE.
There can be times when your needs change as well. You may want to switch from barefoot to shod or vise versa. I ask that you give me a week notice beforehand so I can make sure I have the right materials in my truck.
If all of this works for you then we might be a good fit. Call or text me with your name, address, and what work you need done. Feel free to ask me questions if you have any
Thank you!
