We recently announced that Sugar Haven Rescue officially has a YouTube channel, and somehow, out of over 22,000 followers here, we have a whopping 49 YouTube subscribers! 🤨

Seriously, guys?! We’re starting to think some of you are hiding from us!

We’re trying to grow our YouTube channel so we can share more of our adorable gliders, rescue stories, educational videos, behind-the-scenes chaos, and all the other shenanigans that happen around here.

Hey Sugar Haven Family!

The next dental fundraiser is starting now and we couldn’t be more excited!

Right now, we are sitting at 20 gliders in our care needing dental work. Each procedure costs around $300, so this is a big goal, but one we know we can reach together.

This amazing set will help cover the dental for Chex one of our Florida gliders! Chex recently
had his procedure on Thursday & we still need to cover his bill.

Every bit of support makes a difference, and we are so grateful for this amazing community!

❤️ Meet little Chex! ❤️

Chex is one of the last remaining gliders here from Project Nut-Fix and Chill, the surrender of over 100 sugar gliders from Cape Coral, Florida, nearly a year ago. He came from one of the more concerning colonies in that case.

Our journey with dental cases has been challenging but incredibly educational. After much searching, we finally found a local veterinarian with dental X-ray equipment willing to work with us on costs. It’s been a learning experience for everyone, highlighting the need for more education and experience in sugar glider veterinary care.

Chex recently underwent a procedure our veterinarian had never performed before. Both sides of his jaw were moving independently, and surgery was performed to reconnect them.

The alternative was euthanasia, and our team had some difficult discussions about whether surgery was truly in his best interest. Quality of life must ALWAYS come first.

I’ll admit, seeing him immediately after surgery had me questioning our decision. But just 24 hours later, I’m feeling much more hopeful! Chex went from 78 to 86 grams, although some of that gain was likely from the sub-Q fluids I’d given him. He’s on a liquid diet, receiving pain medication, getting plenty of rest, and being closely monitored. So far, I’m incredibly encouraged!

He’s certainly not out of the woods yet, so please send your prayers, positive thoughts, and healing vibes his way. ❤️

Follow Chex’s recovery journey! We’ll share his progress, challenges, and everything we learn along the way. This is new territory for us, and we invite you to learn alongside us!

A little note: Chex’s surgery was completely unfunded, as we hadn’t anticipated treating six gliders Thursday. We still have a substantial veterinary balance to pay before our next group can receive dental care next month. Without that balance being paid, those treatments will have to wait. Every contribution helps! ❤️

And speaking of treats, let's be honest... our gliders think EVERY day should be Halloween. They show up in costume (usually disguised as innocent little angels), demand treats, cause chaos, and disappear into the night. 😂

🦷 Dental Update!

Great news! All 5 of our original gliders did well during their dental appointments! They were even able to squeeze in one of our two backup gliders, Chex, who needed his little jaw stitched in place.

Three of the six will need to return in two weeks for follow-up appointments.

6 gliders. 6 dental appointments. Plus an outstanding balance from our previous site visit required by the USDA.

🎃 $5 Friday – Tiny Terrors 👻

Forget haunted houses and creepy clowns. Sugar glider owners know a whole different kind of horror!

😱 THE WHEEL CHEWER: You’re washing dishes, water running, minding your business, when you hear it. That unmistakable sound cutting right through the running water. You freeze. You KNOW that sound. You rush to the cage and find your little gremlin happily chewing on the expensive wheel you bought just for them.

👻 THE 2 AM BARKING CHORUS: You have to be up at the crack of dawn for an important day. You’ve finally fallen into a deep sleep when… BARK! BARK! BARK! One glider decides 2 AM is the perfect time to make an announcement. Then another joins in. And another. Now the entire colony is performing a concert nobody asked for, and you’re wondering if you’ll ever sleep again.

💀 THE MIDDAY POUCH SCREAM: It’s the middle of the day, and you’re innocently walking past the cage when a bloodcurdling scream erupts from the sleeping pouch! You nearly jump out of your skin. Apparently, the mere audacity of walking past their cage while they’re sleeping is grounds for a full-blown demonic outburst.

😈 THE NAIL-TRIMMING EXORCISM: You’ve got the clippers, treats, and all the patience in the world. Your glider acts like you’re performing a ritual sacrifice. The screaming! The squirming! The drama! And you’ve barely started. You’ve got 13 more nails to go!

🎃 BUT THE REAL HORROR? THE VETERINARY BILLS!

As funny as these tiny terrors are, emergency care, dental surgeries, diagnostic testing, and medications are anything but funny. At Sugar Haven Rescue, these are the scary situations we face regularly, and we can’t just walk away when things get frightening.

Our funds have taken a serious beating, but the gliders still need us. That’s why this $5 Friday, we’re asking you to help us tackle the scariest monster of all: our bank balance! Even $5 helps provide care, and small donations add up when enough people pitch in.
