The research has spoken. Keep your fingers out of your dog’s bowl!

Please help!
Spread the word that putting hands in food bowls and pulling food away from dogs INCREASES aggressive behavior.
Dropping food in the bowl as you walk by DECREASES aggressive behavior. Now we even have research to support this. Please help get the word out.

Today, Maggie and I, went on our first training session in a restaurant. If you look closely, Maggie is displaying whale eyes, a definite signal that lying down in this noisy new place was making her feel vulnerable. As a handler, I had two choices—I could leave her in that position or I could adjust my criteria to decrease her stress. I chose increasing her comfort and confidence. We changed her position on the Mutt Matt to a SIT, and her body language changed instantly. She sat quietly on her mat for an entire 20 minutes calmly watching and sniffing the air. She was everything a service dog in that situation needed to be.
Good job, Maggie!
