“I am a Veterinary Assistant at Russell Veterinary Services. I have a degree in Biology from Tennessee Tech University and have worked in animal care for seven years. Most of my prior experience is in wildlife rehabilitation and animal shelters. I have a Pomeranian/Terrier mix named Scuttle and also a Children’s Python named Obi. A TREAT for you , TRICK for your pet 💥📣

As much as we all love the upcoming holiday. We want everyone to keep in mind the dangers that can come along with it that we commonly see. We want your pets safe and for our clients to have a great day as well 🫶

- 🍫Candy: toxic to pets not only due to the ingredients but wrappers & sticks can cause obstruction and GI upset

- 🎃Pumpkins: always be aware once they start rotting or molding to dispose of properly

- 🌟Glow sticks/jewelry: can cause head shaking, mouth foaming, and vomiting if eaten

- 👻Dangerous decorations: avoid items that could be swallowed or cause harm to pet

Guess what type of lizard this scaly guy is !!!

His name is Reptar & came in to have his nails trimmed. He did very well but wanted to hide his face when the cameras came out 😋🦎

This species can often be very friendly & “dog-like”. Fun fact: they can grow to be up to 5 feet long and weigh 20lb 🫣

“ I have worked as a Veterinary Assistant at Russell Veterinary Services since 2018. I have a degree in Agriculture Business, and I grew up on a farm that has been in my family for generations. Keno would love for everyone to know that even though the temperatures are dropping. We STILL recommend keeping all furbabies on flea/tick & heartworm prevention. 🪱🦟💊

This area does not get cold enough to eliminate all these harmful bugs. Even if pet is indoor only or doesn’t go out much. They can still get fleas/ticks. These critters can sneak in on you, other pets, through the windows/doors,etc. Also, they come carrying diseases and can lead to secondary issues.

Scout was recently seen for a snake bite 🐍

Although his was non-venomous and hes feeling better; We still want to highlight the important of catching the symptoms as early as possible.

The most obvious signs would be: 💥📣
-puncture wounds
- swelling/bruising
- lethargy
- severe tenderness to the area
- neurological issues like dilated pupils, wobbling, excessive drooling & ascending paralysis

If you SEE the incident occur, call us or any ER vet immediately. Limit activity for this patient to decrease circulation of the venom, try to find out quickly what type of snake, and exactly WHEN it could have happened. Although we don’t carry the antivenom yet we are still equipped to stabilize the patient and run labwork to determine the damage.

“I have been a veterinary assistant at Russell Veterinary Services for about a year now. I currently am in Lincoln Memorial University College of Veterinary Medicine as of this fall. I have a passion for animal health and welfare and am excited to continue pursuing my dream of becoming a veterinarian. Outside of work, I enjoy reading, spending time with my Yorkie, Simba, and making memories with family and friends. I’m grateful for every opportunity to learn, grow, and make a positive impact in the lives of animals and the people who love them!”
