🎥 Teaching the “Down” Command – Early Stages 🐾

When I’m teaching a dog the “down” command, I always start by luring the dog into the desired position using a treat — without saying the command yet. The focus at first is helping the dog understand the action.

👉 In this video, you’re seeing the next stage of that process. After a few successful repetitions, I stop guiding the dog all the way and instead just show the treat, waiting patiently for the dog to offer the behavior on their own.

As soon as all four elbows touch the ground, that’s when I say the word “Down.” This helps build a clear association between the word and the behavior.

In this clip, one of my clients is learning and practicing this stage with her dog — and doing a great job! 💪🐶
