Under the needle today is a large (100" long) project and a slow stitch out. (I am here all day and its not a race.) Even though my system will fly ( and ), a slower speed ensures accuracy and no wobbles. Client DJ is a new-ish quilter and does her own smaller projects at home. She does very nice work and I always like her quilts, even if they are huge! Her last ones here were fun and whimsical and we went with quilting to match This project is more traditional in design and fabrics, and the backing is gorgeous. The recipient will be able to flip it over and have a great wholecloth.

Newest customer finish. She found this Double Wedding Ring at a thrift shop and it is quite old. Fabrics and feed sacks are from the 1930s. I have completed many of these antiques and this one was in the best condition of them all. No rot, totally sound hand piecing even with the cotton thread. Likely stored in a climate controlled area as no dry rot anywhere. No wonky seams that pulled apart. They didn't have the measuring tools and templates back then as we do now, and it was neither flat nor square. I had to fiddle with it as I advanced. But it really was made well and it came out great. She is going to bind, wash, and enjoy it.

A recent finish. Quilt is a modern Attic Windows made by CB. It pretty wild, so we went with a more contemporary allover feather quilting design. Quilting done in a light grey thread. We are both pleased with the result.

All thread organized in the cabinet by brand and type. So nice to get it out of drawers and where I can see it! Found 6 cones of white Glide 60. That's three too many. Going to get sold. Looks like i can buy more thread, lol.

We still need hardware to keep it closed. Hubby and I have different ideas of what that should be, so no k***s yet.

Hubby built me a thread cabinet. Isn't it amazing??

BATTING PSA TO QUILTERS because you need to really know what you're buying.

Getting ready to do a lovely client quilt. Pastel fabrics with white background. Well pieced. "Quilt shop quality" fabrics, flat and square. Client provided Warm and Natural Batting, which is a NATURAL product. Not my favorite as I find it quilts up stiff. It is also NOT A 100% COTTON PRODUCT. (Read the label.) It is 88% Cotton and 12% Polypropolyne (the fibers made from recycled plastic.) But if a customer likes it, I will use it. I want to be clear that there are some awful products on the market but this is NOT one of them. It is what it is.

Opened the bag and immediately noticed the seeds and cotton residue. Remember this is a NATURAL product. At least this particular package doesn't have sticks in it! Cotton seeds can release oils when they are punctured with the needle, and come through the quilt fabrics. There is no way to avoid this. They do make a bleached product which is cleaner.

There are plenty of batting options out there. I am a Hobbs fan since beginning quilting in 2003. This quilt will come out just fine. But I do need to watch quilting density or it will be very stiff.

SOLD! Its gone to a new home.

Local quilt/sewing friends... doing a deep purge of my sewing room. This extra machine cabinet has to go. It's in great shape despite it's age (I got it in 1992 with my first "good" sewing machine.) A mere $25 and a drive to my place and it's yours. Includes all parts and nothing is broken.
