🐾 Happy National Cat Day! 🐾

Cats bring companionship, comfort, laughter, and plenty of personality into our lives. Today is a chance to celebrate them—and talk about how we can give them healthier, safer lives. ❤️

🏡 INDEPENDENT DOESN’T MEAN THEY DON’T NEED US.
Cats depend on us for nutritious food, fresh water, clean litter boxes, veterinary care, and a safe home. They also need daily attention, play, and patience. Bringing home a cat is a commitment that lasts well beyond the cute kitten stage.

🐱 KITTENS CAN HAVE KITTENS.
Female cats can become pregnant as young as FOUR MONTHS old and can have multiple litters each year. As those kittens grow and reproduce, the number needing care and homes can quickly increase. Nationally, 1.3 million cats entered shelters as strays in 2025!!!

Without dependable care, cats living outdoors can face hunger, illness, extreme weather, traffic, and predators. Being able to hunt doesn’t guarantee a cat will have enough food or stay safe.

💛 PREVENTING UNPLANNED LITTERS HELPS PREVENT SUFFERING.
Spaying and neutering help reduce the number of cats needing homes and offer important health benefits. Male cats need to be fixed, too! And there is no health benefit to letting a female cat have “just one litter.”

Talk with your veterinarian early about when to schedule your kitten’s surgery.

📣 LOW-COST HELP IS AVAILABLE!
Good Shepherd Humane Society’s Access to Care program offers spay/neuter clinics at several locations across Northwest Arkansas, with services starting at $25 and core vaccines available. Appointments are required.

🐾 Have room for a foster dog—or time for a walk? We could use you!

Some of our dogs at Green Forest Animal Shelter need a little help learning to walk comfortably on a leash. Others would simply enjoy extra attention. ❤️

🏡 Open your home
Fostering gives a dog a chance to experience home life, build confidence, and practice everyday skills while waiting for a forever family.

What would you need?
☐ A safe place for the dog to stay
☐ Time for daily care and short, gentle leash practice
☐ Patience while the dog settles in
☐ Willingness to follow shelter guidance and share updates

Call us to discuss a dog who fits your household, the length of the stay, and available supplies and support before committing.

🚶 Open your schedule
Not comfortable fostering? You can still help! With this beautiful weather, it’s a wonderful time to come take a shelter dog for a walk.

Please call ahead so we can arrange a time, explain the walking guidelines, and match you with a dog suited to your comfort level.

Whether you offer a temporary home or a little walking time, you can make a shelter dog’s day brighter. 🐕💛
