Meet Scrappy Doo !! 💙💙

Part toy enthusiast, part cuddle monster, and 100% adorable! He’s always up for a game of tug-of-war or proudly carrying his favorite toy around the house like it’s his job.

This 4-month-old 22lb mix breed is both crate trained and potty trained (with hardly any accidents to report – gold star for Scrappy!). He walks like a champ on a leash and rides in the car like a perfect gentleman.

He’s great with other dogs and would love a playful pup buddy, but he’s also perfectly happy soaking up all the attention himself.

Food? Yes, please! Scrappy is very treat-motivated. He’s gentle with his stuffed toys — just a little nibble here and there, no destruction involved. He’s also a total people-lover and is known to dish out big bear hugs to his favorite humans.

And if he decides he’s done walking for the day? He’ll sweetly place his front paws on your leg to let you know it’s time for an upgrade — to being carried like a toddler, of course.

Meet Willow!!

With her adorable white-tipped paws, a gorgeous mix of tan and black fur, and one sparkling blue eye paired with a warm brown one, Willow is a little heart-stealer. Her perky ears and fluffy tail seem to have minds of their own, constantly shifting with her curiosity and excitement. She’s as cute as they come.

Willow is the full package: potty trained, crate trained, non-destructive, and a professional couch snuggler. She’ll quietly hang out in her crate until you’re ready, and when she’s got free reign of the house, she’s perfectly behaved—though she’ll happily sneak onto the sofa to get cozy.

This 1-year-old 17lb Australian Shepherd walks politely on leash and loves to take her time sniffing all the best spots. She’s learning her basic commands like sit and come, and she’s working on staying off furniture unless invited. She’s gentle, tolerant, and has been great with the teenagers in her foster home.

Willow also gets along wonderfully with other dogs. She happily follows her playful Labrador foster brother around the yard and joins in the fun, especially when he’s playing fetch.

What really sets Willow apart is how affectionate she is. Start petting her and she’ll immediately roll over for a belly rub, lock eyes with you, and flash her sweetest smile. She loves her people and always wants to be near them.

She’s curious, quick to learn, and has a thing for toys—especially antlers. She doesn’t shed much, trains easily, and has a calm, loving presence that makes her easy to fall for.

Meet Patches!!

This lovable 6-month-old goofball with a big heart and an even bigger love for everyone he meets! This sweet, super friendly pup is the ultimate companion — he adores his dog buddies and can’t get enough of playtime with them. Patches is not just a playful guy though, he’s also a snuggle expert who loves nothing more than curling up with you for a cuddle session. And his snoring? It’s so loud, it’s absolutely adorable!

Patches is a versatile, fun-loving pup who’s always up for a game or a nap, and he’ll keep you laughing with his silly antics. He’s doing fantastic with potty training and is well on his way to being fully house-trained — he just needs a home to make it official! Patches is also a pro at walking nicely on a leash, loves car rides, and, of course, is completely obsessed with toys (though, fair warning, any stuffed toys better watch out when he’s around).

Allow us to introduce Little Sister! She’s tiny, she’s adorable, and she has one mission in life: to find the perfect lap and stay there forever.

Little Sister is the queen of cozy. This 7-year-old Long-Haired Chihuahua is a low-energy, no-drama kind of gal who would rather chill at home than play fetch or wrestle with other pets. Happy Monday! Last week was filled with activity, and we’re thrilled to share that 13 animals found their forever homes, including three double adoptions! If you’ve been following closely, you know that all animals in our care will be going into foster care due to the upcoming NFL draft this week. Today, we’ll be sending the last few dogs and cats into foster care. Perhaps, just perhaps, some of them will find their forever homes 😉. Annie Mae is the total package: sweet and playful. She's excellent with cats and, while she hasn’t officially met dogs or kids yet, we have a good feeling she’d do just fine with polite introductions.

This 1-year-old is not the kind of cat who’ll launch herself into your lap uninvited—but invite her up or scoop her in for a cuddle, and she’s all purrs and snuggles. She’s young, curious, and loves to play, especially if you bring out her favorite toy—a wand with a little “bee” on the end. She could chase that thing for hours.

Aurora is the total package: sweet, playful, smart, and just the right amount of silly.

This 7-month-old Husky/Shepherd mix still figuring out a few things (like the whole "crate" situation), but she’s already making great strides. At bedtime, she settles in quietly and snoozes through the night like a champ.

She’s got a serious case of the wiggles on walks—she loves to stop, sniff, listen, and explore the world around her. Sometimes she needs a gentle reminder to walk straight, but with her eager-to-please attitude (and treat motivation), she's learning fast. She’s already working on sit and down commands and comes running when you call her name.

Aurora has spent time with kids of all ages—from toddlers to tweens—and once she gets her initial "Who are you?" barks out of the way, she turns into a happy tail-wagger, ready to dole out kisses and snuggles.

She’s also been roomies with a golden retriever, and let’s just say... it’s been a total blast. Aurora thrives with another dog around. She’s even been picking up on potty training by following her buddy’s lead. That’s one smart cookie!

After all the fun and games, she’s more than ready for cuddle time. Sleepy Aurora is a total sweetheart—she loves belly rubs, gives gentle hugs with her paws, and will melt right into your lap like butter on a warm biscuit.

She’s all about stuffed toys, chew bones, and outdoor adventures. A fenced yard would be her dream, but as long as she has a chance to run and play, she’ll be happy. She’d do wonderfully in an active home, especially one with kids or another dog to play with.

The year was 2006. The state of companion animal welfare across the nation was downright ugly. It was commonplace for 50% of the dogs and cats entering shelters to be losing their lives. Our community was no exception.

Our founder, then 21-year-old, Amanda Reitz knew there had to be another way. With her parents as co-founders, the Reitz's committed to making the welfare of companion animals their life's work. They saw the problem and leaned in. Together they set out on a journey to create positive and lasting change on companion animal welfare in our community and beyond.

HEA Today You've heard the story before about the successful business that got its start in a garage. Our story has that element too. And now HEA provides direct care for nearly 200 dogs and cats through our Green Bay adoption center location, our growing foster network, and our Sanctuary (rehabilitation and lifetime care facility) located on 40-sprawling acres in Marion, WI.

Perspective on the Companion Animal Welfare Movement 1.5 million dogs and cats were estimated to have lost their lives in shelters in 2018. This translates to 4,100 per day or 3 per minute. The state of Texas accounted for 220,000 of those lives. We feel it is our duty to assist in areas of significant geographic need.

Locally, the picture is much brighter. In 2018, our hometown was one of the higher performing life-saving communities in the nation. HEA didn’t accomplish this alone, but we’re honored to be an important contributor. The generous outpouring of support that is injected into our pet-loving community makes it happen.
