I am always fascinated with the all the different colors dachshunds can be! Truth be known, I’ve done my fair share of research, conversed with mentors, and I always strive to withhold the dachshund standards in the truest form.

A true English Cream will always have black nails, a black nose, black paw pads, and black eye rims with dark eyes.

If the 🐶 has a pink/liver nose and light-colored nails, or light eyes, it is likely a dilute red rather than a true cream. Could also be a hidden dapple. You can have chocolate based creams, blue based, etc.

There are also Shaded English Creams that are born very dark, these 🐶 keep some subtle black shading on the tips of their ears, tails, and back even into adulthood.

Clear English Cream: These dogs are born light and stay consistently cream throughout their lives with little to no dark shading.

Only Longhair: True creams are exclusively long-haired Dachshunds. If you see a short-haired (smooth) or wire-haired dog being offered as an English Cream, it is often a misidentified color variant.

I hope to share more on color variation of dachshunds! It is so interesting how the badger dog can come in a confetti of colors! 🩵
